Waterpump Pricing

I'm looking at getting the water pump/thermostat replaced as preventative maintenance, no sign of it being done before and whilst I imagine it has been with it at 126k miles, I want to know for my own sake.

I've been quoted 2.5hrs from a local indy which is £96, this can't be far from main dealer rates can it? Although I appreciate they're willing to let me supply my own parts which saves me the ridiculous rates being quoted.

Any idea if 2.5hrs is overkill? I know the self bleeding process will essentially look after itself, and I've been informed by a few members the N52 is an easier change than the M54 (albeit the part is ten times the cost) but I just want to essentially sanity check this isn't absurd, and if anyone has any recommendations. Based in Yorkshire.

Thanks in advance!

My decent local indie just charged me £192 all in for the pump and belt on my E46 M54 3 litre, done in around 2.5 hours I think.

Hope that helps :)

Main dealers are around £130 plus vat for an hours labour

Unless they have a deal for older cars or a fixed price for standard items

Ah right okay, so it's not that bad. I was going to go ahead with them anyway as long as it was there or there abouts as they're a knowledgeable bunch, but some indys I had quoted me an hour and a half but wouldn't let me supply my own parts. I guess one way or another it would cost me the same amount. I'll be buying an M54 next time round haha!

If I could get 2.5 hours labour for £96 I'd bite their arm off!

Shame about the cost of N52 pumps though. :(

£96 an hour haha

I thought it sounded too good to be true.

Oh and chamged my own N52 pump for a genuine Pierburg last year, too about 45 mins including the self bleeding. Make sure you get new bolts, mine came in the box. The need to be tightened to 10nm +90 degrees.
