Water temperature.

These stupid Z4's don't display the engine water temperature just the oil temperature.
Is there any 'hack' to have it displayed in the binnacle?
Ta.

TBF I'm just glad Z4s actually have a temperature gauge!

My E87, E90 and E91 had no gauge at all, just an amber warning light followed by a red one less than a mile later when the electric water pump dies. :headbang:

While my 3.0Si gauges displayed water temperature my MC displays oil temperature, which I much prefer. IMHO oil temp is a much better indicator of when the engine is fully warmed up ready for a heavy right foot. :D

Thanks, it was more to have the coolant temp always displayed.
I recently unknowingly had a split in the overflow return pipe and the only warning was when the display warned that the coolant temp was too high and the car went into a limp type mode. The oil temp stayed normal so wasn't any help.
All back to normal now with a replacement pipe, also took the opportunity to change the thermostat and water pump just as a precautionary measure.

I was under my car yesterday, i noticed the pump body was aluminium.
So is just the impeller that's plastic?
Or the electrics that fail on them.

It’s the electrics that fail, I opened one up that failed in less then 1k miles and I was surprised at the amount of components, resistors etc that are in there.

That's why they just stop working causing almost instant overheating.

Mechanical pumps often get noisy or start weeping so you get some warning in advance of total failure!

I'm not sure if they always stop working.
Had a unit that seemed to run in an emergency mode with full power to avoid overheating. Result: the motor run way too cold.
