Water Pump - N52

After my last thread I am becoming increasingly convinced that I need a new water pump. Waiting for my code reader to arrive today to determine if the water pump is on its way out, however I am starting to think that I may as well just get it sorted now and get it out of the way. Car is on 113k miles and no proof it has ever been changed (and definitely not been changed in the last 40k). Already spent a fortune sorting this car out so what's another £500 aye  :headbang:

Local indy quoted just under £500 for the pump and fitting (inc VAT).

I have looked around online and it seems the pumps are around £200 - £250 all though I am not sure if they are 100% the correct ones. If I do buy the pump myself I can save around £150.

Is this the correct one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254216813754?epid=251911796&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item3b3080bcba:g:d00AAOSwDvZcyBRd&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACkPYe5NmHp%252B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsSeg1Ad1f9161DldjYGbgJebjE0Xcuqq7I2Pca4s19UkbVz24bzKnCRIMPDTA9aOezAPEXYwCrN0dq%252FlBEVwm70lHQvmKAjzNmwF47q51jFCeudTZx6SHCuLiwJRxnZAv36dKWX70sbDlAVs7l%252F4g1071eUl0r7wwjLIyKf4e0xbiEIsQiwG3pnyGCQ5uXv2A6jUJxcCzNU04xLINx2XUZP3GYIAoAaW%252Bu7xBLvVxJ9%252FvRBPzedDf3A3oEMWTL3zyZBwfxd8saBf%252B4OY%252B%252BRqnn%252FCc%252FPAarJ3SgWp6pmzez8Y71%252BJCvVRkY1upJu2n8v4d%252FYo9CHRoaBn40RF%252BV6zYKRtV8VfQ%252Bw1P1tE5ykDpQaRZxHjRxWxpRte6vFxvDN5dg79G7KREOwgUcKcR72%252BCXzTUT8HpGP9v5L9xMEtvBfccNEy426tWKFPvhxTfLYRuHmqymhBu9myCU2aywnHb5%252BNz94I3Q6a86xAYDwxRYjAY29hEmTE4Wlh9GUlxJ3k2aJWLfk3JcqjNmjx4hfCjWqBuO%252FW6ybSiVQ%252BoAg%252FlD9uiYSZsFcXonJ652mF1OdBRv0YtCP1PWMncdo%252B3fTlaqKNJPnrVzeAOOrborj74c2CrZwFJoDkM6fRYK3q4rBVUOLSuYlg7QDSCq3I9XaPh1Y97R8GkHfmU58VAgOd8dg%252F36azmU%252F30HyRrkAwwUEKI3hFJKZPTGXQB39jBdJLIqO40QXGRjlv2HE%252BFosonjiYH%252BmAK9Ro59wDNn6huDoQ7JrIptwXXksmho0EvE1wv8YFdN%252BxsN1XxWMTshTcVNqpDydAsKdwCJCtujWYBiaoKn%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2499334

Or does anyone have any better suggestions where to buy one from? Also would it be worth getting the thermostat done at the same time? As here the thermostat is only an extra £38 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254607866699?epid=11042069826&hash=item3b47cfbb4b:g:yKIAAOSwihtdkcmK (assuming these are the correct parts).

Check Autodoc as they always come up cheapest- although you will wait 1-2 weeks for delivery from Germany

If you do look at autodoc, download the app and wait for a ~40% discount to come up. I was pleasantly surprised that my order turned up in a few days.

I bought the pump and thermostat together, £231 I paid on eBay but had £70 import and vat to pay. So £300 all in. Easy to fit even just jacking up one side.

I replaced one two weeks ago. I paid £204 on eBay. Easy job.

Did you get import duties etc from there?
Seems the only place to source one is ebay shipped from germany and getting hit with import and vat as per above.

I think eBay has an agreement that charges everything that you'd need to pay. I paid nothing apart from the eBay price even though it was over £150 (the supposed threshold for import duty).

Interesting, It seems hit and miss.

I managed to get one + thermostat from autodoc, came to £260. But at least removes the possibilities of import duties etc.

If it helps the OE ones were made by Pierburg.

Make sure it comes with a gasket and new bolts as they are single use aluminium ones on N52 engines.

BMW were charging over £500 for them in 2015 - don't ask how I know! :headbang:

I got my duty and tax demand a little over 3 weeks after delivery from the carrier FedEx, still under 300 for the pump and thermostat so good value but I thought I’d got away with it.
It took me 2hrs to do both with zero mechanical knowledge. I had a go because my local specialist said it would be at least 3 hours labour, lies!

As others have said quite an easy job to do yourself. If you don't change the thermostat you will have the bonus of loosing very little coolant.

Whats the process for removing it, From what ive read most people are accessing it from underneath?

Some youtube video I found the guy was talking about removing the oil filter housing from the top etc. seems unnecessary.

The earlier m54 engine has its water pump accessed from above, the facelift cars with the n52 have their electronic water pump sited underneath the engine.

Jack up right front corner, look underneath and it is easy to see what you need to do. Easy job if you have the correct socket fitting (E ? can't remember the exact size/number). 3 bolts, so takes less than an hour even if you take your time.
