water proofing hood

I'll report back in a few weeks after the hood's been rained on a few times etc

The cleaner did a great job

I used the BMW cleaner - smelled lovely, and worked a treat. Haven't treated it yet - wash and treat = job for the weekend

Sadly, just a little word of warning about any of the waxier roof waterproofing liquids.

I treated my Zed a month and a half ago with two coats of Renovo. When applying, some of this inevitably pours down the sides of the roof instead of soaking into the fabric and eventually works its way down the soft top drainage holes where it mixed with the accumulated grit and dead leaves to create a gloopy waterproof paste that blocked the drainage holes...

I've just got back after 2 weeks holiday to find my soft-top hydro unit motor drowned, a "manual operation only" roof and a £1000 to get it fixed (or £350 plus several hours work following Shipkillers roof removal instructions) :(

I shall definitely be following the instructions to clean out the drain holes every couple of months from now on but I would recommend that anyone who has recently treated their roof should check them out asap.

My problem was made worse by the car standing for two weeks - for once the collection of potholes the council call roads have a use... shaking the water out...

:o Sorry to hear the bad news, guess its a word of warning to check drain holes are clear after using water proofing the hood. Not sure if this is right or wrong thing to do, but I tend to pour some clean water down the drain holes and watch it gush out the bottom. If water gushes out real fast then they can’t be blocked or restricted. Am I right or wrong?

The manufacturers of the soft tops for BMW, VW etc recommend Raggtopp which I bought from Motor Geek with a forum discount:

My soft top was quite dirty and had mildew on it. Had to wash it twice (probably 3 times would have been better) but it did clean it up and then the protectant afterwards.
