Water leaking in through windows

Hi All

When I wash my car water leaks in from the top of both driver and passenger windows – it’s not much, just 1 run down the inside of each window and doesn’t happen when it’s raining. It has always done this since new 7 months ago.

It has been back at the dealers twice, the first time they replaced rubber trims and the second time they told me they had adjusted the windows to close tighter, but it still leaks.

Does anyone else have a problem with water leaking into the car when you wash it?

Do you think it’s normal / expected for a convertible to leak? ( Not had a convertible before )

Oh and before anyone asks - yes the roof is up when I wash it – – and I don’t use a high pressure wash

Hi,
I do you a pressure wash although from a distance. I get a dribble down each window on the inside at the front top point. It doesn't leak in the rain so hasn't realy bothered me enough to have it looked at.

Make a video of it happening and then take it back to the dealer and ensure you only get it back once they have confirmed it doesnt happen again under the same conditions.

After all, your using regular water pressure - it should not leak and they should be able to easy reproduce this in order to remedy!

Good luck!

Never had a problem when driving in the rain even when really heavy but if I use a pressure washer or hose directly on the windows I get a small leak - I just put this down to the pressure forcing the rubber joint between the windown and rubber trim, there must be a limit to what pressure they will withstand.

ApolloZ4, I do not have this problem and would not consider it 'normal'.

+1 :driving:

but just check they are closing properly. if you shut them with the door open, when they are fully up they drop back a few mms.....then when you close the door, they go back up again. check thats happening correctly....or theres a 'window reset' thread here somewhere that might help......

I always make sure I jetwash the car in the direction the seals have been designed to work. Not from the rear forwards. Jetwashing from the rear of the car I could get a small bit of water down the inside of the windows on my old Z4 Coupe! ;)

Used to get it on slk but not on zed although I use a hose at a slower pressure and not a jetwash.
Most annoying thing I have found though is driving in rain, the turbulance between wing mirrors and windows causes diets water to sit at this bit obscuring mirror quite quickly!! :x

Hi All

Thanks for the replies, I was worried that I was being too picky.

I wrote a letter to the Dealer Principal, he rang me and seemed concerned and apologetic that this had not been sorted after 2 attempts - so have arranged a meeting with him next week.

There won't be a problem with me replicating the leak while I am there - the driver side actually leaks as soon as I apply the wet wash mitt to that area - not just the hose

Hopefully it will be 3rd time Lucky - lol
