I have a 2003 Z4 with 43,000 miles. Just had the convertible top motor replaced because water wouldnt drain. It cost $1800!!!!!!!!
What can I do to prevent this from happening again.

Hi it's a common problem and been discussed on various boards (and here) many times. Shame you had to have an $1800 hit

Try this link as it's very clear to follow:

I always wondered if something like this can actually clean the clog for the Z4

I've seen some of these snakes have a tiny clamp in the front to grab hard to reach build up of dust behind applicances. (Cant's seem to find a picture of it)

Interesting idea, but I suspect on the critical motor side you won't be able to get it down to the entrance to the drain.

I used to have one of those devices that you could press a button on to grab things with 4 jaws. Great for recovering bolts dropped into the bottom of the engine bay as they of course never land on the ground...

I'm guessing the upper drain isn't readily visible as I haven't looked into this so working on my post count! But, can you run the snake up from the wheelwell and push through the blockage then vacuum around the motor area to remove the blocking material ??

Looking at the pics from the DIY, I think getting to the drain plug is bulk of the work.

Can someone help me find the drain entrance? I know Im looking in the right area, its just dark as hell in there. Luckily I dont think I have a drainage problem on the motor side, water runs freely from the top to the ground, but Ive got a puddle on the other side and I cant find the drain hole. Any tips?
