Well having found a huge puddle swimming around under the driver's seat at the weekend I believe I may have found the reason.
Checked doors - OK
Checked drains - OK
Noticed skirt at bottom of windscreen had lifted so looked a little harder. When examining I found a broken clip which should secure it to the bulkhead, this is intact on passenger side where clip is fine.
My question - Do I have to replace the whole skirt/plastic drain channel that sits along the bottom of the screen or can the clips be installed seperately? Also does the thing need sealing against the screen?

I thought that was only cosmetic?

When i had my windscreen replaced the screen looked perfectly sealed without it.

So could it be the drain?
Poured water in the top and it flooded out underneath.

When I poured it behind the skirt it just disappeared....

The drain from that area is into the inside of the wing. You can see the black outlet on the top rail on the pic below.

I see what you mean but I'm still stumped as to how it got in.
No smell and it's clean like tap water.
Definitely not door seals and the drains work fine.
Could it get through bulkhead from behind the skirt?
It can't be coincidence that it's got wet on the same side that the clip is broken and the skirt has lifted... Can it?

It's cant be getting in behind the skirts, as you can see from my picture the skirt has been removed and it's solid behind.

I would suggest the door/door seal is the most likely cause going from previous experience from everybody on here. I know you said you checked, but how?

A watering can or hosepipe won't have the same effect as actual rain.
 
When it rains I've seen no track marks around the inside at the bottom of tho doors as I've seen posted with door seals etc. .

When I say skirt I mean the long black plastic piece that sits flush along the bottom of the srceen under the wipers. It's designed to take water from the screen into the drains but has lifted away from the screen on the drivers side and a clip is broken which holds it to the bulhead. It's allowing water to get underneath at the base of the screen and I think it's getting through there. I think maybe the windscreen has been replaced badly under a previous owner?

It's still fitted under the wipers on your picture so maybe I'm calling it the wrong thing??

Well it's in the garage today for oil service and MOT.
They are going to have a look for me. Failing that it's in the body shop next week getting repaired after the last numpty drove into me.

MOT passed with no advisories.
Oil service complete.

Water leak?
Looks like a new windscreen has been badly installed before I had the car. The seal wasn't in place properly behind damaged clip. Water getting behind bulkhead, getting through speaker, down back of accelerator pedal and tracking under carpet.
The answer is basically a new windscreen due to the way it's bonded on. They have hashed up a repair with silicone sealant and if that holds all OK. If not then it's a new screen.....

Was going to suggest either a badly ftd screen OR it could be as simple as the Pollen filter housing,which apparently, if not re-fitted correctly after being replaced/during routine servicing, etc./ it leaves a gap between it and the Bulkhead,letting water in. Hope that's it all sorted though :thumbsup:
