Water in sills !!!!!

Hi
Booked my car in yesterday to have CDV removed, whilst driving to garage noticed water swilling around under me especially when braking, sounding like a large tank of water sloshing to and fro. Found and confirmed on a video posted on Youtube where the water collects particularly in right hand sill. Sure enough garage confirmed water was in sill, about 20 litres plus of it !, anyway drilled jack point and let water out. No one seems to be able to pinpoint the issue though. I wonder if as its been raining so much and the car is kept outside if the shear volume of water overwhelms the capacity of the drains to evacuate the water so collects in the sills, just a thought ?

when it rained heavily, my 5 series used to let water in.

turned out the weather membrane in the door had come away from the door and I had to reattach it using some tar like sticky tape (I forget the name)

check to see if the door membranes are 100% intact.

my z4 coupe also let water in (I wasn't aware of this until the next owner identified the issue)
it was the same issue as my 5 series but someone had cut the membrane away to fit a new window motor (what an idiot)

Could well be this, also had to fix the membrane on the Zed.

I'm also having water issues. Currently have the boot carpets out drying on a radiator and a dehumidifier running in the car. No idea where it's coming from, so if anyone has experience of dealing with this, please share!!

:o :o :o Not heard of this one before.

Used to get water in the passenger side rear wing in my old Mazda 323F Sport, had to regularly take the light cluster access panel off and push a towel inside to dry it out. Never any rust there though. Hope fully it's clean rain water straight from the sky and not dirty water off the wheels/road. Though any water left long enough is bad. :(

Also have included this Youtube vid on accessing and clearing drain hole on Z4 for anyone not sure on location.

Dont know if its relevant but when I checked my roof drain plugs I poured water down the side of the softop and watched it drain out. Unfortunately it also ran out of the cill by the front wheels creating a nice little flood in my garage. I posted a question and was told that is perfectly normal if the car is not sat perfectly level. I wonder therefore if car has been parked on a slight incline whether the water can accumulate within the cill.

when i removed my cills to fit aeros there was some water... and it hadn't rained for days.... i think its normal but not sure on how much. that video shows LOADS of water :/

When I flush the roof drains the water sometimes runs out from the front of the cill right behind the front wheel, it must be blocked around that area I presume?
Regards

There, I think my answer was correct. There must be some sort of drain hole at the front of the cill behind the front wheel. Before drilling any holes make sure you check in that area for blockages.

Butyl rubber strip?

Check your boot brake light as water can get in here if the seal is knackered

yes, thats the stuff.

I still have a large quantity of it left after doing all the doors on my 5 series :)

Had the same as OP; cleared roof drains after searching this forum and removed the front jacking blocks to drain the water. Wedged them out with a screwdriver. Water drained out on the driveway for whole night! Never returned since - although I left the jack blocks in a bag in the glovebox.

I think this is running along the top of the side skirt though outside the sill so a different issue so to speak.

Definitely running inside the cills & not the outside of them srhutch as I've checked on my car, the only water outlet was through the roof drains & it enters the cill from the drain exits and travels along them internally.

So water is coming out of the drain hole where the plastic plug is and then getting back inside the sill?

I would have thought the sill was fully enclosed.
