Water in car

Hi Guys and Gals.
My wife's 4 is coming up to 3 year old (ragotp).
She has only had the car 6 months and have today notice water standing in the driver's side rear mat well, behind rear seat.
Any known problems and suggestions where it may be from.
I know we have had some downpours in the last couple of weeks, but surely this should not happen. Removed a couple of pints of water which was being held in the sponge under the carpet.
Final inspection due before warranty expires, what should I tell them to check out?

That's a lot of water. I'd be looking for something like the 2 drains for the hood being bloked and causing water to overflow in that way. It could however be coming in from any one of many places from poorly sealing windows, damaged gasket inside the door.

Best just leave it to BMW to sort under warranty and they can soak it and see.

Thanks. That's what I had in mind to do. It is strange that the carpet to the front of the seat, the side up to the cill, up to the centr console and up the rear are all dry.
Any other pointers what to get checked before warranty expires. All else does seem well and drives well, but if there are known problems, worth them checking.

guys im having the same problem BMW Z 4 2006 2.0 litre Msport there is a water puddle behind the passengers seat underneath the carpet hatch ..

could you kindly inform me of the outcome .please

As the car is still under warranty I have booked it in for a check and test for the source of the water leak. This is next week and I will update here of the outcome and findings.
It is strange though that none of the surrounding carpets are wet, just water holding in the mat well.

cheers mate for adding that ...would be interested as to what the outcome is ...as i have taken to an independant garage who did seem to have fixed the issue ...then few days later it reappeared due to heavy rain ...my car is out of warranty and as you can imagine dont want to face a heavy bill ..cheers

totally agree regarding the strangeness that the water is only in one place .. :tumbleweed:

Any luck with the water leak .....?

In tomorrow and they say they will probably keep in until Monday afternoon, unless the problem is easy to identify.
They insist that it is not a known problem

mmm sounds dodgy ...mines booked in monday to get the drains cleaned hopefully that will cure it ....
they will prob check the membranes in the doors with yours i suspect ...

keep me informed mate please and good luck :driving:

But if the water was from the door, why is it that the carpet in the inner cill under the door isn't wet?
If it is the drain holes blocked, how does the water get to the mat well without getting surrounding carpet wet.

well its baffling me totally ..as well
but my car is booked in at a BMW independent specailist to have the drains checked ..and see if this is the source of the leak ..like you mate i have no idea how it collects in the mat well ...keep me posted with your findings monday ..

Thanks Again :?

Haven't had the car back yet so can't confirm anything, but have been contacted by someone who had the exact same problem it seems on their 2 year old 2.5 and the dealer replaced the door seal and not problem since.
Hope this is of help.

Hi mate hope alls well ....just to see how you got on at the dealers with the water leak ..?
was it the door seal or something else ...? :?

Car still in and likely to be until Monday, for carpets to fully dry. They claim thay have now identified the source of the leak, which is the screen/window seal/channel, which they have replaced and tested and now seems OK. Just dry the carpets and put back together and collect on Monday.
What did they find with yours?

The drains needed cleaning out but im not convinced ..!!
if the problem continues looks like i will need to have a water test done ..ie seats and carpets removed to source the leak ... :(

but the indy is a trusted garage that i have been dealing with for years ..so hopefully will get it sorted ...any chance you can put a picture of the part that needed replaced ...either on here or send directly to my email please ..?
