Water in boot and dead battery.

Just been speaking to my Father who told me the alarm had been going off in my car (the car is at my parents house while I'm away until christmas), he put the key in the ignition and found the battery was flat, it's not been used for about 3 weeks, but normally lasts a lot longer than that, plus it was new battery last christmas. Anyway he opens the boot to plug in a charger and finds the boot soaking wet so water is getting in somehow, I fitted the hardtop before going away and for the first time fitted it over the side covers, he assures me the inside of the car is dry especially around the roof. Any ideas about how water can in the boot of a stationary Zed, it just seems strange that I've never had a problem until using the hardtop with the covers or is it coincidence and that maybe a seal has just got compressed.
I'm dreading finding that when I go to raise up the roof in the spring I have dead roof motor.

Any ideas where to get him to look, any help appreciated.

Only thing I can think of would be a failed boot lid seal

I know this was a problem on the Z3 water coming in via the brake light seal direct into the boot maybe same issue on the Z4, just a guess :?

I fitted my hardtop just once with the side covers in place and I got the impression that they actually prevented something from seating properly, because it rattled like buggery when driven over rough surfaces.....disappeared as soon as I removed and refitted without the covers....just a thought.

I had this exact same problem. Turned out to be where the screw goes for the rear light trim was letting water in, I just slapped so silicone sealant in and bobs your uncle.. Boot bone dry!

Seriously though is it worth getting some chaps round and taking off the hardtop and leaving it with just the softtop? Whereabout is it in the UK?

It's in Eaglescliffe, the old man is slowly drying it out, so it doesn't seem to be getting worse, he says he's going to cover the rear with some kind if cover, Ctek chrger turned up yesterday so that should hopefully revive the battery.
