Water Entry - Coupe - think its sorted!!!

Evening folks,

Only just noticed under the passenger seat the carpets are absolutely drenched, nearly swimming, has anyone any ideas where the water has come or be coming from??? Nothing around the door or windows has been wet at any time, took it for mot on saturday and had a look underneath while it was there, no grommets out anywhere that I could see. Seems an awful lot of water there, anyone any ideas or can help ? (thought I'd got a water tight tin can with it being a coupe :D )

Any ideas appreciated

Done a search in other posts, can't find any real answers, do coupes have "drain channels" , I mentioned it being a coupe so it's nothing to do with the soft top :D
 
Have you had the windscreen replaced recently ? Even a pin hole in the seal can allow a lot of water in over time, amd woth all the rain we have had... happened on my wife's car recently. Just a thought. I am sure Paza had some issues with water ingress and door seals recently too :?
 
Theres an issue I've seen (and had) on the roadster where under certain conditions water can ingress over the sill capping and under the front end of the passenger door....its only happened once in six years to me so I've no idea what the cause was, but theres definitely a thread somewhere showing where the water comes in.....I think CJ had the same problem and commented on the thread?

I'd search but I can't be arsed :oops:

That's just cosmetic issue, wont have any effect on water getting into the cabin.
 
Thanks for the replies folks, not had the screen replaced are any other work, I'll check on the tips and I,ll have to take the seat out at the weekend to dry it out properly and if necessary do a bit of further investigation. I can't believe it, there appears to be gallons, must be on the 10th soaked towel :cry: the water seems so clear with no smell, driving me nuts! I'll post back on the outcome if I find one :thumbsup:

Afternoon,

I think I may have a solution to the problem which stacks up but a little further advice is needed, I had a e class merc which had he same problem about 3 years ago, it was the drain for the air con that had split / disconnected and was discharging behind the drivers seat (car was only a few weeks old so prob never connected properly), the water in the z4 is so clean it could be this, anyone know if the air con drain runs anywhere in the direction of the passenger seat??? Before I start stripping.

Ps was reminded of this after discussing with someone who also had same problem on another make of car

Looks like that was the problem!! Poured water on the screen and it dripped inside the cabin, noticed the 'skirt' had lifted slightly, pressed on it and it sort of clipped back into place and no more water ingress, :thumbsup:

I can believe its not sealed and water can get in that way but still, if that's the cure :D

Just got to dry the friggin carpets out now
