Personally I think the Z4's terrific on fuel given the performance. Not sure what everyone else managed, but my OBC was showing 32.2mpg after yesterday's Scottish driving meet in my 231ps 3.0i. And not all of that driving was taking it easy. My all-time average for ownership so far (over 7k miles) is still a fraction above 30mpg. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough?

Driving style and use makes a huge difference.
I can get about 36mpg out of my car on a quiet run to work taking it nice and steady.
Drive it hard and 23mpg is more like it.
At least it's fun to drive, nothing worse than getting 40-50mpg in something dull. I used to relish spending £60 filling older less good diesel cars despite them doing 45mpg, while the Z4 I just don't care what it is actually getting, it's worth it

Thanks all.... I am getting much better mileage now. It was all about getting used to an automatic also, never had one before.
To start with I was accelerating quite hard all the time, whereas I have been gently accellerating of late and it makes no end of difference, the gears change much earlier and I'm definately not wasting juice like I was.
All part of the learning curve. It's a joy to drive and I'm thrilled with the purchase. When I look at most cars now I just think they look sooooo boring and I'm really glad to be in mine.
Next thing to do is get an ipod connection sorted. There are numerous threads on here about it, so I'll gen up. I think it will be more tricky because I have bluetooth phoneprep already. I'll take a look.

My record is 43mpg in my 3.0... though that was a loooong motorway drive with the cruise control set spot on 70 the entire way, no heavy breaking and absolutely no heavy accelerating. Was purely an exercise in seeing how high I could get the MPG. I usually average 35/36 ish on a motorway run, 27/28 around town.
