Watchdog has got on the case now

The owner of the M3 they are showing needs his wheels refurbing 
They say its only affecting cars built before sept.2011,which is ALOT of cars...and that poor guys/rare 1 M was nicked,very very easily.
The kit costs just £6300 to do this...time BMW rewrite all security software for all cars AND the bloody police/authorities BAN the sale of this equipment,openly on the net
Thats why i have always got mine parked furthest up the drive,and wil look iknto a tracker/alt.,secondary alarm system.
Got to hate the guy that made this kit that can do this. small cost for someone stealing BMWs :thumbsdown:

Im with you on this one if they had a proper solution I think they would be saying so very loudly and there isnt a thin g on their website about any of this , I might try customer services tomorrow , wonder if i will get through!!

Where on earth did you get £6300 from? Try under £100 and less than 10% of the number you're talking about for an ODB version that the scrotes use...

craig3.0, not sure it affects the ///M does it ? Not watched the programme, but I thought it was the new style keys that are vulnerable ?
If it is only pre-2011 e89s that are affected then I have another reason to buy an ///M :wink:

Tells you how bad it is when they say to park the car in a garage or out of site.
My 1er is in for warranty work next week so will be phoning them in the morning to see what they are going to do regarding this.

They so did not set my mind at rest!!
I put in a request for info via the website at 07.30 this morning , still not had any response, what is starting to worry me more is the impact on insurance , it is already quite expensive and (assuming I still own it at that point) next year I might be in for a bit of a shock
Plenty of discussion on other BMW forums. General info being given to BMW owners (other than X5/6) is that there is currently NO available fix at this time, but they expect to have one available within 8 weeks. They're currently trialling it on the X5/6 before rolling it out to all affected models.
I've got an e90 and I guess the e89 is similarly affected if it's got the same keyless start?
Easy solutions for the moment:
1/ fit a Disklok
- sounds idiotic on a £30k+ car but it's one of the few locks that actually work
2/ move/disable your OBD2 port
- guessing on the e89 it's at the driver's right knee? (left knee on LHD cars)
- simple: removing a few of the plastic panels means you can unscrew the port and either relocate it using an OBD2 extension lead, or hide the fecking thing up inside the dashboard. I've relocated mine to a hidden location elsewhere in the car - means that me/garages will still be able to access it for data analysis purposes.
