Watch winders

Are they worth using?
Im considering buying one to keep my Seamaster fully wound overnight in the hope it will exhibit better timekeeping.

If it's just overnight I would have thought the reserve was sufficient to keep it running accurately. I have one for my Seamaster PO but that's because I can go weeks if not months without wearing it. They're worth the money for infrequent wearers in my opinion.

When the watch is fully hand wound it keeps good time but when auto wound it looses time - I wear it 24/7 and it’s been serviced. It’s always been the same, even from new.

I just wondered if it would maybe compensate for my maybe less active lifestyle?

I have a two-watch winder and it keeps the watches accurate. It is also easy to just put one on your wrist without adjusting time/date if you have not worn them for a while. Don't know about your Seamaster though, but it does seem odd that autowind does not keep it going.

I found watch winders more hassle than they are worth, also think about security as I would not want an expensive watch sat on the side somewhere in the watch winder just in case I was broken into as it would be the first thing that would be stolen. I just hide my spare watch up and rotate them every few months. If your watch is not accurate over 24hours then it needs a service!

Hi Ron,

I used to use one and had it running all the time but then I just happened on a watch forum where the long term use of winders was discussed and there seemed to be consensus they're not good for auto watches so I stopped using it. As said it was also a bit of a faff using it, swapping watches etc so I just wind a watch as and when it's worn.

I think for non autos then a winder is probably ok.

Tim.

A watch winder is only worthwhile if you have a rotation of several watches and you don't want to be adjusting for date function every time you want to wear one. People tend to get them, use them for awhile, then stop bothering. The chronology equivalent of a new exercise machine....
