Wasps nest

Stop fannying about Tim - all you need is a bloody great stick - I had a pretty sizable wasp nest in the garden - got said stick and gave it an almighty clout then ran like fcuk up to the house and locked myself in -surprising how fast a 69 year old can run when he has to

Hang on, this is potentially a life and death situation in a confined space not in the middle of a cricket pitch

They started to build one under the gutter outside a few years back - shut all the windows, got my son’s high powered water pistol, full pressure blast & slammed window shut.

They were well pissed off outside, made a cuppa & by the time I came back they’d buzzed off.

Wicked they may be, though remember they’re nature’s police, going after all the nasty ticks, lice & other insects that can do us harm... I quite like them, though NIMBY

I don't dislike them as such as wasps are important part of the insect chain, if they were at the bottom of the garden it wouldn't fuss me, just being in the garage it's a little too close for comfort and multiple stings wouldn't be pleasant

Mines larger than that :?

I read the largest wasps nest ever found was something like 21 feet wide, thats larger than my garage

Just got rid of 3 nests in our loft, 1 was 12" across. Rentokil wasp killer powder does the job quickly and can be blasted up to 8ft away from you.

Does it work on woodworm too Fredrick?

Just leave them alone and they wont bother you. They will die off in the winter.

When they are getting into the house, they need to be got rid of unfortunately. I know they do good things, but they can be nasty neighbours too.

I had to get it sorted as the Nest was sitting above the car.

Nest all history now, glad I got rid of it as the central core of the Hive had 4 levels all full of large grubs, assume new Queens. Mr Waspinator said it would only have grown larger and got worse.

My loft gets at least one wasp nest each year. Using a wasp powder puffer from Amazon I can shoot the wasp/ant powerer into their entries to the roof. This usually does the trick safely and easily. Prior to buying that I had a nest between the ceiling and the insulation. Raid wasp nest destroyer shot from a distance and then running away like a girl did the trick on that one :D

Are you sorted now?
I had a problem a couple of years ago ,
I got kitted up in a boiler suit over wellies - elastic bands around the legs - hat and a scrim face mask - and my pressure washer on full tilt!

All sorted thanks Ron, cost £45, there were some small gaps in the end of the garage roof where they were getting in so filled them with silicone so hopefully won't return. I'm going to get some fake nests and hang them up for next spring as apparently wasps don't like building nests close to others.

Glad you got it sorted. Never ceases to amaze me, the information you can pick up on this forum.

:) Many thanks, not great with wasps but if you need moles removing I'm your man :)

My late father in law was an ace mole catcher in his youth (1920’s) he earned enough to buy a new Rudge Ulster from his craft!

Any tips of pursuading them to go elsewhere, as they invade at the beginning of each year.

I want to teach them to swim using the hosepipe as they’re trashing the garden, the Dragon Lady is an animal lover...

We had moles once in the back lawn, once I established the underground run, I blocked one end off and inserted some smokes so they had to come up at the other end, there was only one though and once it came up to the surface I tried to grab it but in turned around to go back down into the tunnel. I managed to grab its back legs but you wouldn't believe how powerful their front legs are and it wriggled free an went back down into the tunnel. I ended up getting a moe catcher to come and set some traps and left it over night. Next day it was caught and it was taken away to be released. They can be hard to get rid of.
