Sars, what did they charge for fitting and taking away old one? JL charges £25 and £9 respectively. A bit steep when we need both machines.

:poke: Anybody know if you can DIY with fitting a new dishwasher? The pipes and water supply are all in place for the current machine. :tumbleweed:

Let's say my mother is very domesticated. And she doesn't like leaving the dishwasher for days when not full. I think it's fine to rinse with cold water under a tap and put the stuff in. But we always try and put it on every few weeks to keep in in condition.

Dev - Oh that's a shame about the Hotpoint. My parents' dishwasher is Hotpoint, had it over 15 years and it is only packing in now. We've been very happy with it.

And the thing about buying something that's at a super price - my Dad did that with the frikkin' Whirlpool washing machine. It leaves holes in cotton or brushed cotton clothes and also leaves what looks like chalk skid marks on dark clothes. Resorting to shouting at Daddy and putting on half loads.
 
Have had a silver Bosch for nearly 9 years now.....does it good to give it a cleaning treatment every few months, and the all in ne tabs are ok, but I still add rinse aid and salt from time to time.....
 
Plumbing in is a zero effort job, you can not do it wrong. Just connect the hose to the cold water feed (dishwasher ) and both cold and hot (if available) for washing machine.

The exhaust pipe goes in the waste pipe (usually has a support plastic U bend).

Shifting it is the issue due to the weight :)
 
I'd by a washing machine with a hot and cold water feed...otherwise it takes ages to heat up the water.....
 
i am a man... so what do i know about washing machines and dishwashers.. but i love my Hotpoint... tells me how long is left in the wash, steam function for my shirts... so i dont need to iron them, and a 1600 spin.... and best of all my daily wash cycle is only 40mins!

Came with the house (integrated appliances) so can't say. And the coin, it was a fecking Polish coin and neither of us have a clue how it managed to get in there...

Funny reading this, with people saying we had no problems with make X but make Y was rubbish. Just goes to show all the manufacturers can and do make duff machines.
We had an expensive LG washing machine and I would not touch another one with a barge pole one of the bearings collapsed on the drum just outside the warranty period and proved virtually impossible to replace, so a £10 part killed a several hundred pound machine. Went out and bought a reletively cheap Hotpoint which has so far lasted longer without any issues (kiss of death).
We do currently need another Tumble Dryer as our current one has apparantly died but at 10 years old I'm not complaining.
Not sure where my ramblings are going other than I'm not sure the expensive stuff is any better (to a point) then the cheaper stuff.
It comes down to the old 'you pays your money.....'

Washing machine - water does not drain well and the washing machine will start to smell. Also, after a couple years it has started to squeak. Had the techs come out and they helped out some but, it never went away.

Dishwasher - does not clean as well as other dishwashers I have had and has become squeaky and requires a tech to come out to fix the squeak.

Dryer - works like a champ no issues

This is why I had children. I do now of course wish I had just bought a mechanical one the whines less.

Just kidding, we had a cheapo Zanussi which lasted 20 years, got a hotpoint now, hasn't broken down or anything but I don't like it.

Now if it had blue Internal leds like Spectres then that might make it a bit more appealing, Spose I could get Jimmypop to retro fit some for me. :D
 
I only buy Miele kitchen / laundry appliances. Great quality, and over the longer term great value too.

Miele for washers/dryers. A league above anything else on the market.
Bosch dishwasher been good for 5 years and a growing family. Btw most dishwashers are the same. Open the door and check the inside panel. All from one factory in Italy but badged with most names you'll know.

We always buy from John Lewis do no messing guarantees.
 
I work in the trade and I'd recommend Miele and Bosch depending on budget, with Bosch go for something above the classix range though.
