Washing in winter

For those that are in snowy salty roads I'd like to know where/how you go about with washing your cars. With the ride height and my first winter with owning my z/zed that it's too low for the auto no touch wash booths here with how the floor sensors are too high. What I've been doing since it's been a very mild winter for us this year with only a few salty days on the roads it's been warm enough after to wash it outside. I did twice so far wash inside the garage using towels around the car on the floor to block water from getting all over and freezing the door down. Then had to be meticulous in drying the floor after the car so that the floor didnt freeze or crack.

I'm wondering for those that have to take out their zed in winter how you take care of the aftermath.

You washed your Z4 inside your garage :D love it  The best I can do is wash my Z4 in warm/hot water and move quickly before it freezes over, hate leaving the car covered in dirt especially salt. Jet washing around arches once a week if roads are salt covered. Its been mild until recently so roads hav'nt been too bad

Yup :D inside to stay nice and toasty taking my time. Another big reason i cant do it outside below freezing because the driveway is bit too steep when it ices over and makes things much more tricky so thought I'd stay inside to do it. Plus it keeps me in the insane category with the wife, I can't afford to ruin my reputation.

My car got filthy last weekend, and due to the frosty weather I've not been able to wash it, as the water turns to ice too quick :(

The zed has been sitting dirty all week which is upsetting

Temps have been ok for regular washing this winter (until just this week). Weather permitting I'm doing a wash, polish and interior clean this weekend.

If it's going to freeze, I just don't bother washing it and do it as soon as it warms up a little. Mine doesn't get used too much in winter though, so doesn't get too dirty. I don't like putting it into the garage wet and salty though if it's going to stay there a week or so, it can't be good for the paint.

It's 4 degrees here now, so I'm off outside once I've finished my cup of tea ! coffee.gif

A mate of mine tried to wash his Impressa in his garage which was attached to the house. He didn't realise till he started that there seemed to be a slight run on the floor towards the door into the kitchen! I can't imagine building regs would approve of that! Anyway, lesson learnt after a mad panic to avoid his wife finding water at her feet in the kitchen. He didn't decide not to wash the car indoors again though - no he thought it was better to make a 'gutter' at the back of the garage using some old tile edging strip and silicon sealant!
