I have a problem !

the car was parked outside a friends house last night and after a night of -4 degrees and a bit of snow, i walked to the car this morning and found the following:-

i am guessing the water froze in the tubes and expanded, but i did expect them to go back to normal once the car had warmed up. However after a 100 mile drive back home they still dont work?..........and before you ask i didnt try and use them whilst the car was frozen, i found them like this !...........

Any ideas?

mine did this- takes a fair while for them to thaw

cheers paddy, did yours just go back to the usual position?. its the first time i have ever experienced this issue

Mine are the exact same. One of mine came out entirely. Tube of ice eventually fired out of the hole....water resumed. They slide and click back into place very easily, but ive just come out to the car this morning and one was stuck in the fully up position again.

This seems really weird. :? Is it because you don't have a strong enough concentration of washer fluid in the washer bottle?

Mines ready mix screen wash at the moment...good point though, adding neat fluid to reduce the dilution should help

errrr, this could be it. i just have water ! after a night of being tucked back in its usual habitat (the garage) all is back to normal thank god.

i have been using the car today and has been entertaining to say the least, although scary. i have been sat at junctions with people beeping the horn at me as i am unable to get of the line due to the ice/snow. Its now back in the garage and i will be using the wife's cooper'S' me thinks until the weather improves.........

so you just pull it and it comes out? one of mines stopped working so i want to give it a clean

lol... I had the same problem last year...

So I made sure I had a fairly concentrated washer mix in this winter.... didnt make too much difference tho... it still popps at least 1 of the washer jets up when its -6 out every bloomin night!

I buy a few bottles of 95% alcohol every time I go to France....about three euros.....not only does it work as a great diesel additive in the old 4x4 but it stops your screenwash freezing too.

The readymix stuff isn't strong enough - I bought some to top the wifes car up and when I got it out in the morning it was frozen solid - five litres of it.

One of mine could be lifted out, the other needed a good hard yank and then the open tube sprayed water in my face. I looked very cool. But I didn't want one off and not the other for symetry. Sad but true. They slide into place on teeth a bit like a zip tie, and you won't break it by taking them off I don't think (mine didn't).

I have since topped up with neat washer fluid and it isn't doing it now, but its not dropped below zero for a few days
