Washer fluid pump filter

Today I removed the washer bottle from the car and then removed the two pump filters as I have headlight washer jets

The bottle was very dirty and loads of black sludge

The filters where both blocked or part blocked with the black sludge

Now cleaned refitted did the usual forgot to take some before photos

It's a really satisfying and fairly easy job to do. I've done it on 2 E86s and once on an E46. I just hope I never need to do it on my E90 as the reservoir is inside the wheel-arch liner.

After sorting them I only ever used one brand of washer fluid and never had any issues afterwards. Using different fluids seems to cause the algae.

Probably because you were too busy retching at the stench of an old water bottle. It’s a smell that troubles you for a while!
