Was looking to justify the //M....1hr later, Sorted!

Got the ///M in June last year, the summer and autumn loved every minute of it. Tax, Insurance, Servicing costs, fuel prices, MPG. All irrelevant. I was infactuated.

Then came November, and I decided to limit it's use in the winter. I can cycle to work (2 mile) & walk to the golf club (5 mins). Rubbish weather.....didn't feel inclined to go out and stretch it's legs and didn't want to make it a winter short journey mule.

Worse still, got myself a temporary promotion in December (which I'm still doing until the end of March). Which came with a company car. So the ///M has done approx 400-500 miles in total, since November last year. (All mundane 30/40/50 speed limits poodling about)

So I'm sat at home this afternoon, the sun is blazing through the window the footie is on the box.

My mind is wandering......Do I really need an ///M?. Think about all that money I could save on tax, insurance, servicing, fuel MPG. I'm just not using it enough! Can I justify keeping it?

Footie finishes the sun is still blazing through the window. I'm gonna go out for a drive.

1 hour later........Can I justify it?........You bet I can!!

The noise of it, the thrill of it, the look of it as I glance back at it on the drive!

Don't think I fell outta love, just needed to remind myself what we had between each other!

I feel all over again like I did last June when I got it!

Day off tomorrow...guess what I'm doing?

I'm in much the same position mate.

When I'm not driving it, I keep thinking whether I should down size as I could save even more money for a next house deposit. We are already saving alot, but I reckon I could save another £350 on top of that if I didn't run the M.

Then I get in and drive and I it makes me smile so much, you feel so alive, that I then think that I should enjoy this while I still have the money to run it.

I'm at the other end of the scale. I use mine too much and sometimes wish when i'm not using it at weekends that I had something cheaper to run for the miles I'm convering...until I get back in and drive it on a Monday morning :).
Someone at the client site I'm mostly working at for now said to me recently that I should just get a diesel. We drive to client site at the same speed he says so my M is using twice as much fuel to travel at the same speed. Fair point, but of course it doesn't take into account the joy it is to drive round the twisties (when there are some that is - I'm mostly covering the M4 at present), the acceleration and the sound under acceleration, and also the way the car drives (throttle, gears, low driving position, enclosed cabin).
I've toyed with the idea of getting a second car but can't decide on exactly what and right now I'm limited in space and time so for now at least I just get to enjoy the M every day...at least I'm getting my £'s worth out of the expensive road tax! Problem with running two 'decent' cars would be that both will depreciate, both need servicing and insurance etc and might actually end up cheaper just running the M

My car was in for an inspection 2 last week and I had a 118d ES 5 door for the day(I think ES - was basic spec) and it was okay to drive but mighty dull. My first impression was "oh big windows, it's a greenhouse, cheap plastics, isn't the clutch light, damn the steering wheel is thin'. The gearbox was easy to change but lacked the solid feel the M has. Some dislike the gearbox in the M but for me it actually adds to the"must grab it by the scruff of the neck" feel and the general solid built-to-last feel of the car.
With the way fuel is going I may have to do something soon, but I think i'd rather stay in a B&B close to the clients I'm working at or even rent a house close by than sell the M

 Just back from 200 mile round trip into Wales, first hoon of the year and back in love with my car. Roof down, roaring exhaust note epecially passing between walls and the sheer speed of the thing...worth every penny :)

I can fully understand all of the above. I change hospitals each year and I'm currently driving 50 miles a day, much of it in traffic across London. I've bought an E46 320d just for the work commute. I miss driving the ///M every day, and it's always a struggle not to use it, but I don't want to pile on the miles...when I do drive it, however, the way it makes me feel is incredible :D

My M is my daily commuter - i do about 65 miles a day in it 5 days a week. Weekends 95% of journeys I'm ferrying children in the family wagon so it hardly gets used on Sat/Sun. If i didn't commute it in i wouldn't use it at all

Looking forward to getting the roof off again :D

50 miles a day in traffic would be horrid, in any car :)

I'm currently covering 120 miles a day 5 - 7 days a week. Occassionally when it's only 5 days I also drive approx 380 of a weekend on trips to devon. Only a tiny percentage of my driving is town or stop-go driving luckily so despite the milage creeping up it's easy-peasy miles really.

Oh, another thing I noticed getting back to the M the other day from the 118 diesel was just how flexible the engine is.It'll pull smoothly from just over 40mpg in sixth gear, the 118 needed to be up around 60mph to pull well in sixth gear which I was a bit surprised at.

Oh this makes me feel so warm inside, im having a little sex wee thinking about my baby arriving this week!

I've never seen a Z4 with such a vivid coating color, it's simply mesmerizing. Did you polish or wax or do anything to the coating ? I have to know...

its that heated seat feeling you'll be getting soon Pope.

Im sure I will have plenty more of those moments, but that one yesterday was pretty amazing!

My M sat in the garage during winter for about 6 weeks, then gradually took it out for short drives. Now i'm commuting abotu 40miles in total on totally awesome twisties generally quiet roads with very less traffic. The only problem is if stuck behind a tractor its a problem very few areas to overtake but other days so much fun. I'm back in it again and am harding using the X5. I dont know if anyone has driven the A422 worcester to stratford. Its awesome.
