Warrenty Loopholes

Hi all,

Came to the zed yesterday morning to find the passenger side wing mirror glass on he floor, Luckily I noticed and didnt run it over!.
I decided to get it to the stealer to get that and a couple of other little things (condensation in the fogs) checked under the warrenty.

Yup, not covered.
I see the threads on here about the same two issues and the lack of luck people have had getting them sorted under the BMW used car warrenty.

The first stealer said if the wing mirror mechanism was faulty that would be ok as thats mechanical, But the glass falling out counts as 'glass' which is not covered under the warrenty. WTF? I tried explaining that technically the glass is fine but the adhesive was faulty but they were having none of it.

They also said the glass falling out is often caused by wing mirror impact, fair enough. I can see how they are protecting themselves there, Then they said I should have the other side replaced as it was loose too.

Hold on... They are admitting the glass on the drivers side is likely to fall out too and this is not a warrenty issue?
I'm not naive, I dont expect tyres, trim, cosmetics etc to be covered but when the bloody wing mirror glass falls out that should be covered, What do they put these cars together with? Pritt Stick?
Also unless I pay for a 'Diagnostic' they wont replace the fog lights GRRR!!!

/rant off

What this whole episode has done has taken the shine off owning this beautiful car. I've had a succession of Escorts, Pugs, Rovers etc in my time and this was a dream car. Took 2 years to find the right one, Got it from the dealer for the peace of mind and warrenty and poof! First 2 relatively minor problems (known issues) and blam, That will be £550 please, Welcome to BMW.

<edit> Oh yes, I mentioned to one of the service chaps that these two issues were common and were widely reported on the Z4 forums to which he said 'Oh yeah but people on those forums complain about every little thing' 'If you search you will find complaints about everything from bulbs to bonnets'

Nice attitude !
