Warranty

My warranty is about to expire and I wondered what if any of you have taken the car in for a "final" inspection before the warranty end date. What's appropriate?

The car seems to be in good shape and I have driven very little in the past 4-5 months and almost none since Thanksgiving.

Yep dealer offered it, took 'em up on it - it is free after all :)

Cant remember whether anything needed doing but I had just had a new clutch and radio

Make a bitch list, check the current TSB's, check your mileage against the recommended brake fluid replacement interval, measure your brake pad thicknesses (especially the fronts) and tell them that your wiper blades suck. If all else fails try for a service II or at least a free oil change. Like Gannet said, "It's free".

Here is a list from another post -

15k miles -- Oil service
30k miles -- Inspection 1
45k miles -- Oil service
60k miles -- Inspection 2
75k miles -- Oil service
90k miles -- Inspection 1

The Oil Service is included in the initial Warranty, first 4 years or 50,000 miles. I pay for an additional oil change at 7,500 miles - mid way on the 15k oil service. My previous dealer would also at every oil change check all levels, wiper blades, brake pads and connect to computer diagnostic. He would come out with these blue gloves on (like a surgeon) and give me a report - great guy!

I am not sure about the Inspection #1. On my last oil change, they also changed the brake fluid and other things - I wonder if this was inspection #1 - after 2 years?. If it was not Inspection #1, then I need to get it before my warranty expires 11/2009 or loose it as a covered (paid) service.

My four year full warranty expires 11/2009. I am due for another (free) oil service in 2,300 miles on the computer.

That said, I have a CPO warranty that I got when I bought my lease out early. It covers mostly mechanical items with a $50 deductible, but no oil service or wear items. CPO Warranty goes two more years and up to 100,000 miles. Roadside Assistance :sos: is supposed to continue with CPO.

Anyone - Corrections to the above are welcome!

Hope this helps!

You wont have much luck with most of the above here in the UK

No chance at all do you think?

My warranty is going to expire come end of april and unsure what to do or how much it costs to extend

I think you will find BMW will write to you inviting to extend your warranty, you can then go online and get a quote using the reference they send you.

A cheaper alternative (so we are let to believe) is www.warrantydirect.co.uk who will allow work to be done at BMW dealers so might be worth a look.

If I were you I'd bring up the wiper blades, mention the brakes, and every other little issue you have with the car (squeaks, rattles, etc.....). Mention every little concern you have. It may not be a bad idea to take the car to an independent mechanic and have them do a full vehicle inspection. It may cost you $70-80, but not only can they discover something that you may not have noticed, but if they find ANYTHING wrong with the car it'll be much easier to get it fixed/replaced at the dealer since you have another mechanic's opinion. I'll be taking in both of my cars to independent shops BEFORE my warranty expires.

Both of my BMW's are right around 45-48,000 miles :o
