hi all,
considering getting a warranty from warranty direct, but reading through the blah, blah, blah, not sure if it would cover the usual roof motor problem, plus a couple of other electrical items, anyone have this warranty or any other, that they could comment on. ? this is my 1st Z and i've noticed on the forums how expensive things can get.. :!:

I am guessing your Z is more than 6 years old, personally i think warranty is a waste of money, buy a hardtop to protect your roof|motor and get into a habit of a yearly oil change

my Z is now 12 years old, running the same roof motor, although its under cover when not in use and has a hardtop for the winter months

My Zed is into its 11 year and as Ranski - hardtop in winter and kept under cover. Having read in detail through several Warranty companies small print damage caused by 'water' is not covered so would suggest this includes the roof motor. If in doubt ring the company and ask.

Thanks guys, I was thinking about a hardtop, until i saw how much they could cost, :!: anyone do hardtops other than bmw, cheaper but good etc, or am i wishful thinking...
Just as an after thought, where or what would happen to the water if the drain holes were sealed off at the top, maybe a stupid question, but then i'm not that bright on these things.. suppose, guessing it would find it's way and fill the boot... :withstupid:

you cant as it would mean the roof wouldn't function, in short you would be gluing the roof to the car body

to replace a fabric roof and roof motor is upwards of £1500, you can buy a hardtop for £600 - £900 money depending on colour and season

Thanks ranski, are the prices you quoted from bmw or elsewhere, ? and for the blocking the drain holes off answer...
Alanj.. Thanks, will ring and ask, but fear you will be correct..
There is nothing wrong with it at the moment, as it goes up and down in about 10 seconds and quite smoothly.. just asking as it seems a common accurance and an expensive one, and before you know it, summer will be over and winter will be back.
