I received some information today from BMW. My 2005 2.5i has about a year left on the factory warranty and I won't come close to the 50,000 mile mark by then. The BMW offer of course is to extend the BMW warranty another 2 years and up through 100,000 miles.

1. Have any of you purchased the warranty extension from BMW? and 2. What's a reasonable price for the extended warranty?

I purchased an extended warranty from Honda a couple years ago on a GL1800 GoldWing and got it on sale for about $300 US but I'm sure the three little letters BMW would command more. What's a reasonable negotiated price for the extended warranty?

I'm assuming it's the extended maintainence warranty right? A few months ago people were able to get it for $1300~$1400. The price has gone up and now it's around $1800~$1900 offered by a few dealers. You'll have to shop around though. The consensus is that the extended matinance warranty is worth it, as a brake-job alone pretty much covers most of it.

Not sure where you got the $1300 quote from. But for the Z4M, parts alone (OEM pads + rotors) cost about $2K. This is not including labor/taxes, and not considering local dealers' mark-up on the parts.

Parts are cheaper for the regular Z4. Right around $700, again, not including labor/taxes/local mark-up on the parts. Dealers are probably gonna charge 2~3 hours for the job. I guess with everything added up, it's probably not gonna be far from the $1300 quote you mentioned.

I can see why it would be that for the M, and using BMW parts, but you can get better quality rotors for less money....

And why do you need to replace the calipers? Unless of course they are sticking but if they work with no problems, then why the expense of replacing them?

Not trying to start an argument here, just don't understand..
