Warranty question

Hi guys/girls

I'm collecting my z4 next weekend from a private seller and thinking about taking out a warranty. I've had an RAC inspection so not too worried about getting home but thinking about the future :!: .

So far I've had quotes from Warranty Direct and Car Protect.

Do you know if I will be eligible to take out BMW Insured Warranty if the existing warranty is lapsed / non existent?

The car has full BMW service history apart from the last one, Inspection 2 which took place at an indie. The invoice states that all BMW parts were used.

Might be worth giving BMW Warranty and call and see what they can offer and then it's just a case of comparing between the various companies - excess, limitations etc. I'm sure others will be able to comment on the good, bad and indifferent of the various companies. In any event enjoy the new Zed. :thumbsup:

If so, personally, I would stick the £400-500 in a bank account and forget about it. Then next year, another £500. You then build up a fund for anything that needs fixing. Put the money in your partner/parents name if you cant resist spending it once it is there!

Looked after, the car should not need anything; clear the drain holes regularly, service it well on time etc.

The engines are bulletproof and the common faults (springs seems to be the most common) cost little to fix. A lot of the stuff that may occur will be wear and tear if the car is an early example and probably not covered anyway.

Plus, you won't have to argue the toss with the warranty company every time. If there is a reason not to pay out, then they rarely show goodwill.

I don't think you can have the BMW warranty once it had lapsed but I may be wrong.
 
Well, I accidentally let my factory warranty run out before calling BMW - they still renewed no problem. Give them a call.

Depends how old the OP Z4 is though
 
I'm with texasjohn on this, but then again I'm a pretty competent mechanic when I need to be and some poeple prefer the supposed security of a warranty. I say supposed as the devil is in the detail of what is covered and what is not, so check what your buying and what it covers.

I woudl certainly call BMW and find out what they will offer as thy are certain to be more kind in the policy wording than an independant insurance backed warranty.
 
Great news, I can take out the warranty with BMW on a monthly or yearly basis, even with a £0 excess. 8)

The gentleman on the phone told me that as long as the car has been serviced according to the schedule then I'm eligible despite the most recent service not being at BMW.

I think I will take out a warranty for at least my first year as I'm worried about the 'sticky steering' issue which costs considerably more than the warranty to fix.

The car is an '03 and non m-power.
