Warranty or not?

Ladies and Gents - just wondering whether I should get a warranty for my new baby. It's a 2004, 3.0i SE with 29,000 miles. BMW are charging around £250 with £200 excess for the warranty. My main concern is the unknown going wrong and then getting stuffed for a large bill.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Go for comprehensive cover with no excess. I currently pay £41 a month with no excess and roadside assistance. Peace of mind.

Thanks Ksher - that's pretty steep though!

What does it cover? My knowledge on cars is limited so I'm not sure what the main concerns would be, but essentially I'm fearful of anything going wrong that'll cost me a packet!

I did not renew my warranty on my M. Low usage and full BMW service history would put me in an excellent position for good will in case something really bad happens.

Looks like it's just the two of us, PVR. Thanks for your post here and on the other thread.

Unfortunately, the previous owner had one service non-BMW, but I intend on doing the remainder with BMW. Not sure what could go wrong, but don't like leaving things to chance and would rather have piece of mind. I'm also not entirely sure what the warranty would cover ... and perhaps more importantly what it does NOT cover.

Depend who you go with as to what is covered, best to ask provider for a copy of the policy details, BMW wont cover wheels or seals for example, Warranty Direct say they cover wear and tear, but no audio equipment/SatNav etc.

Saying that I went for the same as ksher

All types of warranty cover are explained on bmw website. Go to "BMW Owner area" then "Service and maintenance".

WD is rubbish. My partner uses it for her Polo. The procedure and reimbursement were slow.

I use WD for the X5, and have made two claims on it. Both were painful to deal with and you have to shout at them, but they will pay up once you get heavy with them.

The main reason I extended mine was due to having the entire head assembly replaced 6 months earlier and I wanted to ensure all issues were resolved. I doublt I will continue the warranty after this year though.

I never renewed mine and everything that has gone wrong doesn't add up to what they wanted to charge me for one year...

best off putting the money you would have spent on the warranty aside for when repairs are needed... IMO of course :D

I didn't think you could use the BMW warranty without FBMWSH? Or is it just services under the warranty period?
