Warranty Help......

So....a *ahem* "friend" of mine discovered tonight that his roof has died and it looks very much like the dreaded roof motor.

This will cost £1000 to have done as Im not prepared to risk doing it myself.

Whats the deal with taking out a warranty that covers roof motors, waiting a few weeks then making a claim? I know I have no morals but at the end of the day I want a summer holiday this year

Should I just get the fraudulent ideas out of my head?

sounds like a good plan! :D but being an honest upstanding citazen then i cudn't possibly endourse such behaviour!

Certain policies state clearly that holders cannot make any claims for the first 3 or 6 months. You need to check the conditions before buying it.

Warranty direct or Tesco? I think they both have around a month at the start when you cant claim.

So just to be clear what you're asking is whether everyone on the forum who leitimately buys a warranty is happy to pay for you to have a new roof motor because you don't want to pay because you'd like a holiday instead? :?

I'm not trying to be high and mighty (I'd have similar thoughts myself in your position  ) but the truth is that you claim will be paid from the premiums that myself and many other pay in good faith.... and if you make this claim you will increase future premiums because the risk profile of Z4s will be made to look much worse than they actually are so we all end up paying for that  . It may even be that your action will contribute to too many roof motor claims and they will start to be excluded from policies. Insurance fraud isn't a victimless crime but if you're going to do it it's probably not smart to ask the very people (victims) who will end up paying for it. :headbang:

For what it's worth - I wouldn't claim (but I'd learn from my mistake and get a warranty in the future), BUT if I did I would make sure that I continued to buy a warranty in future years to try and put things right a bit.

I understand what I was thinking would probably get some people's backs up but it was just a little hard to swallow at first. Im taking it down to my local specialist today as I want the problem sorting ASAP.

I was seriously thinking about getting a warranty when I bought the car too. Think Im going to go for one once Ive sorted this roof out. Ive noticed that Tesco only cover up to 60,000 miles on their premium warranty, would I be wasting my time with just the middle of the road warranty that they offer? (this covers the vehicle up to 80k)

I'd just lump the cost.

Save the warranty money in an account every year for rainy day, alongside other money.

Ie, I got a warranty for £300, but also budget £100 a month for odds and ends here and there, bushes, tyres, brakes, what have you, that are not on the service intervals but still need doing.

Infact, I'd just buy a new roof, take old one out, fix it, then sell the old one on :)

What sort of cost would I be looking at for that? A new perfect black roof is certainly tempting!

Not sure to be honest, but it's an option. It'd make any swap go very smoothly, and you are 100% assured it'll work etc. Ie, no hidden problems that you might discover etc.

I quite like the idea of a grey roof, or maybe red, I dunno. Either way, it gives you an option to do something cool with your car, and sell on a good working roof once you are done too.

Never done one before myself, but it's probably worth pricing up a new roof just to see while you are at it :)

Wasn't there one on the Buy and Sell section with a ripped canvass ?

I'd be getting something like this, or buy a motor from a scrapper (few been on ebay recently), print out the amazing new How-to and take it to a specialist and try to get an all-in quote.

Get someone to do it all in for £500 cash, take them a roof you've found and hey presto.
