Warranty - getting my money...

So, took the extended warranty out at end of last week.

Friday evening pulling out of local M&S carpark - Kerrrrching..... on comes the emissions light.......

Saturday morning all extended warranty docs arrive in post

Monday morning (tomorrow) booking car in for its 3rd O2 sensor this year......

Only relief that's £300 of the £800-odd warranty recovered and only 2 days into the year..... I think I might come out ahead at this rate, especially if O2 sensors pack in every 3 months....

3rd this year :scratchhead:

Did you have continuity of warranty cover in between the old one running out and the new one starting?

whats more worrying for me is that my car comes out of warranty next year and ive not had one single o2 sensor go, infact ive not had one single warranty claim!!! how much you wana bet they happen every few months once shes out of warranty!!!??

Oh yes, letter came through a while back renewed last week online.

Reckon o2 sensor must be the main fault with the Z4.... bizarre.... always use same BP garage for fuel, 98 RON (maybe a change here needed). Have to say engine is on idle not as turbine smooth as my 11 yr old 528, always put that down to relative tunes....

I'm going to ask for the third degree on it.... reckon garage will be happy enough to use a few hours of warranty paid time.

I had 2 at pretty consistent mileage, think it was about 12k between each. Pretty sure I'm due for a third too.

I am on 13k and not had it (yet). Have a year left on the warranty ...

Do you drive lots of short distances or something? Just wondering if it`s something to do with the type of use/driving style. Three in one year is madness
Think the poor idling when compared to a 528 is probably down to the type of engine the S54 is, a charactersitc of the engine.

I've done 13000 in mine since I bought it, and the previous owner did 9000 miles before me, all without needing one.

Not needed any rear springs (yet) either.

Only needed a 'general module' so far when the wipers wouldn't work.

Maybe a dodgy batch of originals then, both of mine were different banks so maybe they'll last now.

Doesn't explain 3 though.

30K in mine now and the only problem is the rear spring which I'm still waiting for!

Just hit 30k and only had 1 sensor at 8k. Now I only use Tesco 99, I'm sure it was crappy fuel that buggered the last one. Maybe.........

No 'just round the corner trips', in most cases trips enought to get oil up to temp. At least once a week full beans delivered. So unless my application of throttle is suspect then it is either material defect or my regular BP fule stop.... the latter I doubt.

My guess is there in unlikely to be a fault with the actual sensors, its a stable technology, more likely with wiring and electronics.

Most of my trips are 150-250 mile non-stop runs (except for petrol), track days and the occasional 5-10 mile around town run.

meant to say that as far as I know my first two were different banks as well, so back round I go again....

I'm sure I heard they were in a dodgy place on the Z4M, more susceptible to getting coated in something? Might have totally made that up but rings a bell.

quick update.....

car was in other day.... dealer decided to call in for a BMW PuMA to get external advice ... appears car also had a o2 sensor at 9k miles with 1st owner as well.......

when they hear back they'll call me in to leave car for a few day apparently.....

? what courtesey car do I ask for?

Ask them for a new Z4 if you haven't already driven one.

Not had this problem yet at 20,000 miles. Usually Tesco 99 fuel in mine but I doubt that will make a difference. Just seems (one of the weak points on these cars. Do E46 M3s have the same issues??

Quick update - PUMA evaluation repair authorised and the car has been booked in for a week starting 12th.

I'll try to get as much details as possible to post.
