Warranty for a used E89

Or, Get a Barclaycard. They are offering 0% Money transfers for 18 month's.
Transfer £ 2000 to your car slush fund, direct debit £ 114 includes the 2.6% transfer fee.

Have no issue for 18 month's and you have 2K to play with. Then start again. Pay £ 895 and not use it, then it's gone

Hi Smash,

I asked a similar question a few months ago when I started to look into getting the BMW warranty for mine - ‘11 plated 34k

General consensus was to pay into a separate account or save a set amount each month. I was quoted something similar - think it was high £700’s for the warranty

When I looked into what it was going to cover I decided against it

I’m at BMW in Tamworth for my MOT tomorrow & it will be interesting to see how that goes given the recent thread about a BMW dealership that lit upon here 🔥 recently

However I brought mine in May & it was serviced by BMW as I understand it before I brought it off the dealer. I’ve only done a few hundred miles since then so given it’s not exactly been thrashed I am hoping for a clean bill of health

[ref]Argyll Andy[/ref], I know your misses doesn’t want to drive the Zed as she feels too small. My wife is the same - barely over 5ft. She took it out for the first time yesterday & didn’t come back too concerned so might just be a preference for being driven. Which my wife freely admits to.

If I am not mistaken a dealer is liable for any faults for the first 6 months!

In any case if you have got a good example I don't envisage much going wrong with a 23i and you would be better off sticking the 800 odd quid in your piggy bank after two years you will have 1600 that is more than enough to fund most repairs on that car. And probably more than enough to call RobbiZ4 over in case of the roof

On that type of car I would say the slush fund is a smarter option.

The main consensus seems to be a slush fund which is what I will set up. I’ll keep checking for local independents in Norfolk / Suffolk and if anyone knows of any please let me know. Thanks

Martin, I spoke to her again earlier about driving it, same response and she’s very open to the fact she prefers getting chauffeur driven around.
Tbh suits us both really because after 5 mins of her driving I’d be saying have you had enough yet because she doesn’t drive above 50mph

Ash, that does seem to be the general consensus with the 23/30i’s they’re not so prone to the issues some of the other models have. Good news is if you don’t use it, you’re starting a healthy pot towards the next one

Like most (non compulsory) insurance, if you have it one year, doubt creeps in.
I started mine after manufacturers warranty ended. It’s probably money down the pan on a 14k / 5yr old car but it peace of mind I suppose.

Mine costs £422 with a £250 excess - if includes BMW assistance which is a £65 standalone.

If I could get it at that price I would go for it but it’s over double that for me sadly.

I think you need a good AA/RAC breakdown cover and a Direct Debit Slush fund account.
Although I have the BMW warranty I also put £100 a month into a slush fund “just in case” along with other bits n bobs of small cash such as the return of ved when I sorn the car. It has never been needed yet but it’s there if needs be and reassuring - Belt and Braces

I found Britannia Rescue were good (service and price )

What warranty are the garage giving, I assume its their own and not an RAC / AA warranty?

Few companies on here, not certain how much or how good they would be - https://www.quotezone.co.uk/car-warranty?adkey=google-carwarranty-%2Bbmw%20%2Bwarranty&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1p7a4-vE8gIVkmDmCh2TXAwcEAAYAiAAEgK77vD_BwE

It’s their own warranty, I know they are great on Volvos but not sure on BMWs.

Thanks for the list Sean, I’ll have a read.

Shame its they own, I would look at a garage checking it over after 10 weeks , maybe worth the cost to ensure there is nothing going to fail.

Not certain any one will offer you anything but got to be worth a try

Got to be the slush fund option for a well cared for 23i, not that much to go wrong outside of normal service items I bought mine privately so no warranty at all and haven't worried about anticipating any major issues.. Always have a slush fund anyway running 2 cars and 2 motorbikes and only ever use it for servicing costs mot and tax with anything left in the pot for repairs which I've never needed :D

I wouldn't worry too much about having a warranty on a 23i either. As others have said there aren't too many issues with the N52 engine.

The only problems I had with my 3.0Sis were one dead water pump and corroded rear brake lines, but I knew about those when I bought it because they were an advisory on the last MOT!

Everything else was just consumables.

Shame its they own,

As I mentioned somewhere before all dealers are liable themselves for faults that occur within the first 6 months. This is covered by your statutory rights:

https://www.car.co.uk/car-warranties/faqs/used-car-warranties/what-is-statutory-warranty-on-a-used-car

It's amazing how many try to get out this by saying we will give you a 3 months warranty with some external warranty company etc. when the reality is that they are liable for those first 6 months.

Interesting read thanks. I did however try to pay the deposit on the credit card and it was no, I’ve had this at every dealer previously, it’s due to the section 75 which they all know about sadly.

I paid the deposits on two cars this year, both by credit card without a problem. :o

Most of them just dont like the fees involved with cc, a dealer more keen to sell with a car thats been hanging around or a large margin on the car sill be more likely to take a card
