hello everyone

i bought my first z4 two days ago. a 56 plate Z4M roadster :driving:
gotta say im loving it so far it has exceeded my expectations and i have a constant grin on my face like the joker from the first batman film :D
anyway i have a question i did UTFS but wanted to know exactly so am asking it again

when i turn on the ignition i get some lights appearing

these are (according to the manual)
EML the engine emissions - both yellow
oil parking brake - both red

when i start the engine they disappear

my question is do i have a problem with the engine management system, emissions, and need to top of the oil? or are these lights only relevant should the stay once the engine is actually started or come on whilst driving. i read the manual and it says they are only an issue should the persist once the engine is started or when driving.

im confused why are they coming on in the 1st place?!

sorry dumb question i know but this is my first beemer, first sports car even so im extra paranoid :D

hope someone can answer as im concerned i may have issues!!

many thanks
Met

Welcome!

It's normal for the warning lamps to illuminate briefly on start up. It assures you the lamps have not burned out and provides feedback that the ignition is on and the engine is not running. Of course, if one did burn out, I'm not sure I would notice. Can't say I've memorised all the lamps. Nothing to worry about unless you get something red when driving. Amber warnings can be postponed until you can get somewhere to properly investigate.

How about posting some photos of your car? We love photos here!
