Warning lights on dashboard

Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum and hasten to point out that although I know when there's something wrong with my car, I know nothing about how to fix it! Someone else does that for me. :)

I've had my Z4M coupe for some years now without any problems but have got a couple of warning lights on my dashboard. Have identified them from the manual, one is the flat tyre indicator although none of the tyres are flat, and yes, I've done the reset button after checking them. The other one is the ABS, I don't have any problems handing the car.

The person who is going to fix it suggested that I ask on here for any ideas that might save him some time looking for what's causing the problem.

Hoping someone can help. :)

(Am looking for a photo of my car to post!)

Hi Notaclue (I love your forum name  ), I had the same warning lights on my Zed recently. It turned out to be the front left speed sensor. You might want someone to run a scan on your Zed to identify the fault code and if it’s one of the speed sensors. Good luck

I recently had those two lights on my E90. Turned out the rear ns axel and wheel sensor needed replacing, because the timing cog on the axel was badly worn, which gave inaccurate wheel speed readings to the computer. I think the code was something about "readings implausible"
Could just be the wheel speed sensor as suggested though. Best to have it checked out.

Thank you for your replies. He suspected that it was the speed sensor and will be checking that. I really hope it's not the axle, sounds expensive!

Thanks again, will pass it on. :)

You should have noticed it struggling like it's being starved prior to the lights coming on and the DTC giving up.
Anyhow Good luck!

I'm attaching a photo, they did a reset yesterday, this is what they were reading. Lights came on when I first drove it this morning then after I'd stopped for a while, set off again and the lights weren't on. Did quite a few miles and still didn't come on. Stopped again for a while, set off again and the lights came on!

Have you hit a pothole/kerb recently?

Assuming the E46 codes have the same meaning.

5D93 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor : Accident Recognition
5DA3 Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor : Accident Recognition
5E14 CAN Timeout DME/DDE
5E16 CAN Timeout Instrument Cluster
5E19 CAN DME/DDE Torque Reduction Not Possible
5DF0 Pump Motor

Maybe someone can chip in with some info or a better list.

I'll pass that information on, many thanks. Apparently he tried to reset the codes yesterday but wasn't very familiar with the code reader and was short of time.

To answer your question, no I haven't hit a pothole or kerb but the speed bumps around here are horrendous! I always drive slowly over them, particularly after I had to have a couple of springs replaced a few years ago after they'd taken their toll. :(

Change the wheel speed sensor for now as it is cheap and easy. Swap it to the other side if problems persist. Ignore the other codes for now.
