Warning lights - MOT Tomorrow

I’ve had these warning lights for a little while now and to be honest completely forgot about them, I have my MOT booked for tomorrow and have 2 questions, Will it pass the MOT with these 2 lights on? And what do the 2 lights mean when together? I believe its just a broken sensor but someone more experienced would be helpful, cheers

James

New MOT rules should make that a fail now I’m afraid (I guess it depends how friendly your MOT man is).

There are a few reasons for handrake warning and DSC in yellow but it is usually a pressure sensor on the ABS / DSC unit. Ebay ones from China seem to work fine (£20 - £30 ech). There are two of them for each brake circuit...code reader will tell you which one.

I've just had this (those 2 lights), it happened right after a hill start as soon as I released the handbrake and moved off, the code is P3242, does anyone know what that code is? An internet search points me toward thermostat but that seems unlikely. Unless of course the code has been there for a while and not been reset.

That will fail the new mot :( if it's going into a BMW specialist I would probably just get them to sort it. Hopefully a straight forward problem. If not I would possibly pull it and get it sorted first.

Mines not in for MOT.... just hijacking thread with same problem.
Any way lights out this morning, still have the code though so just cleared it, I'll see what happens.

Traction control sensor I think, so sensor or wire, and will fail an mot but it could just be pads as those lights are linked. Sensor is cheap enough I think. On my 3 series there was a sensor on one front and opposite rear wheel.

I can 100% guarantee it is not a wheel speed / ABS sensor (traction control sensor?) or brake pad wear sensor.

Need codes to confirm.

dammit.. was i close ? ash tray full sensor then ? come on o wise one.. dont tell us what it isnt.. tell us what it is.. :poke: and dont say check the codes - cus a 5yr with learning difficulties can tell us that ... take a punt ...

i know.. dirty wheel nut sensor ? no ?

I have had this before, I think the code was SE21 which is brake pressure sensor. 2 minute job to change it. New BMW part is over £100, genuine used one about £25-£30 from eBay. Can't comment on the the chines copies.

Initially the lights didn't clear so to properly clear the fault code and lights my mechanic drove the car with his OBD connected and activated the ABS a couple times and then they went out which was a relief.

Very common problem. As stated there are 2 sensors, the fault code will tell you which one.

I'm trying to remember how we all managed before fault codes obd and had carburetors and points, 20/50 oil and engines were worn at 20k and exhausts were like smoke stacks..

I have a motorhome with the EML on and nobody can cure it, they just read the fault code and when it don't work they are stumped. :headbang:
