Warning Lights DSC/Brakes

I have the DSC Stability Control light constantly on yellow, along with the brake light on my 2004 E85. According to the manual that means a failure of the Dynamic Stability Control.

Has anyone else had this, and is it an easy/cheap fix? Would you recommend an indy to do this job, or can any garage deal with this issue.

Car is driving normally, but obviously I don't want to drive it for too long before fixing it.

Thanks

You will need the fault code for a definitive answer, mine was a £10 pressure sensor, others have been a £1500 DSC pump. You can buy a code reader cheaper than an hours labour and you will get your moneys worth on the first use.

Can you point me in the right direction with a link to purchase the right thing?

Cheers

The ABS pump is a known weak point on the Z4.

My warning lights come on back in april and after taking it to the local garage to get the codes read, which confirmed the pump was at fault, I had the pump removed and sent off to ECU testing, who rebuild it with better quality brushes ( lifetime guarantee) for around £230- which is much better than £2000 plus from BMW - that will fail again in a few years!!

Looking forward to discovering a recommended code reader.

I have had the 'triple threat" light show twice after replacing brake pads.
(Amber brake indicator, tire pressure indicator and traction control triangle)

The first time, after replacing the front brake wear wire , the lights went out during a short drive.
The next time, after replacing the rear brake wear wire, followed by disconnecting the battery to reset everything _
not so lucky as the lights stayed on. :(

When you start to research a fix you discover lots of possibilities.
As you have discovered : The ABS Pump (which needs a serious update on it's electric motor brushes which are reluctant to brush)
and the brake pressure sensors located on the master cylinder reservoir.

I even thought I might have purchased a faulty brake wear wire, so I shorted out one of the broken connectors and installed them to see if that might fool the BMW Super Computer, or at least help diagnose where the error was located.

Apparently it can also be associated with the steering wheel sensor (?) that might be reset with turning lock to lock .
I finally gave up and took the Zed into the dealer for an oil change and scan diagnosis. I requested a 'reset' if that was all that was required.

So after "a time" the SA retrieved me to his desk.
He told me I was using the 'wrong" battery. Not the BMW Battery !
I had just replaced my second H6 in between battery disconnects when the starter seemed laboured and when my Hi Tech battery charger had taken a fit while I was topping up the battery.
I understand the standard BMW Battery is an AGM (glass mat) model, and that the H6 I use does not have those mats to support the lead. But in my experience I didn't see any additional longevity in service. BMW wants over $440 for it's battery vs $89 for the H6.
Apparently the bad battery was somehow the culprit this time, and all the other symptoms were just an unlucky co-incidence.
I was charged a little more than $200 for the diagnostic, reset and lecture.

With fresh brakes and battery I expect it will be a while before I have to return for another lecture.

Cheers Bumpy

This is mine but there are others.
