Warning lights and electronic oil readout

Hi guys

After a drive today this engine light has come on. I have checked the oil via the button on the dash. Reading other posts, people say it should eventually say oil OK but it is just coming up with ( )---1 oil. I haven't got a reader but wondering if someone can tell me 1st is the oil level OK and 2nd a possibly cause of the warning light.

Thanks

Your oil readout is showing you are on a 1/4 which is fine. It will let you know when it needs some adding (you will hear a bleep when you turn the engine off) and usually 1 litre is required.

As for the check engine light it could be anything, you will need a code reader to read what code is being recorded, however I don't think that it is related to the oil level.

The check engine light is emission related, as in there is a problem with the air/fuel mix.

Number of possibilities, get the codes read and you will know more. Or maybe not, many of get codes are generic, but should help in some way.

Most likely O2 sensor.

My check engine light has been intermittently going on and off only since the real cold weather has started. Code reader has it as an 02 sensor.

I recall my e46 had the light you see lit up, and another which was "EML". The one you see lit I have seen on with many, many e46s. Generally meant something was not good on the emissions front. In my case a split in an air hose.

As it got worse, eventually the "EML" light would come on and the car went into limp-home mode (put some hideous engine map on) until I got it fixed.
