Warning light on dash

I have a yellow warning light on the dash in the form of an engine symbol
Any ideas what is causing it?

If its in the middle bit between the two dials it means full power no longer available - you can continue your journey but moderate your speed
and use due caution.Have engine checked ASAP !

If you had the warning light but the car didn't go into limp mode (ie. running really rough and ask you to pull over and stop the engine) then I would say it's a misfire.

One of three likely causes:

-Spark plug is knackered
-Ignition coil faulty
-Injector faulty


How long since you last changed the spark plugs and what's the mileage/age of the car?

Also when did this happen? While at full revs? While at low revs with foot pinned to the floor? Or just while driving normally?

Found the problem!
Trying to start the car without putting the clutch in for a few times brings this warning light on,don't know why but it's true
Wifey owned up,she hadn't driven it for a while and forgot
Just thought I'd let you know

Is that when it's in gear, or neutral ?

It will be that one, are you going to say it always comes on briefly when you start that car?

Or read the one it was supplied with I keep a PDF copy on my phone as well as list of warning symbols and what they mean which I got from a BMW tech
