Warning cowboy wheel refurbers now with pics Now redone

Any chance of some pics with the flash on, just so I can get an idea of the metallic flakiness to them :)

Or some in the sun maybe?!

Look nice and smooth anyway, and a good price :D

It's way past tomorrow now :D

After my test with Deutsche Silver on a few spokes of a 107, I decided it was the finish to match OEM (apparently D Silver is OEM soo)

Anyway, decided after having a dink on the inside of my 108 fixed over at Ian Jemisons today, to pop in to The Wheel Specialist on the way home with one of my 107's for a quote. Their examples were good (assuming they do their customer ones like this ;) ) and they also had a wheel in Deutsche Silver... the laquer was a little darker than mine, but the overall look/finish next to my wheel I took in was pretty good really. Maybe the metallic was slightly softer than on my fresh application (almost imperceptible flakes, but Deutsche is very soft) but after you got about 3ft away they looked identical.

I also asked about the lumpiness, and they said it was the base (as I suspected) that is lumpy, and that is simply picked up by the lacquer. I asked about flattening the powder lacquer and he said no problems, just don't go through it. They don't do it because it'd just make the price go up lots. Clearly something I'm happy to do if it is cuttable (which it apparently is, so that I shall be testing :D )

Sooo, I left one wheel with them, if it comes back really nice, and I can wet sand it and smooth off the lacquer a bit, then I'll take the rest there!

Will post up pics when I get it back and give a run-down. They also gave a good price.

Fingers crossed, at least then I can get these on then DIY my 108's, then finally decide which I want to keep

I would of took the knife off him and rag dolled him into the office and cut the phone line with it. Cant believe costomers get treated like that. In this financial climate you would think that they would want repeat costom. GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR it makes my blood boil!!!!

This is simialr to an experience I had...

First day I bought my Z4MR I scraped the passenger under sill (thankfully just that which is plastic) and took it to a place in Birmingham for repair..

Job was good and the sill looked good.. only when I went to pick it up he mentioned they'd noticed a 2 inch long "dodgy" repair on the passenger door just under the wing mirror which looked like someone had painted a line in the same colour but its clearly noticable if you look. However, I hadn't noticed this when I bought it and its very hard to spot unless you actually "look" for it (I looked round it very carefully when I bought it and didn't see this but it was 5pm at the time so I bould have missed it) - so I don't know if it was there when I bought it or if they'd scratched it and tried to fix it..

Also, a week later at a valeters, they asked if I'd had it in a paint shop as when they were waxing it, they'd noticed some "overspray" on the rear passenger side just next to the boot, although I can't notice this so it must be very slight...again, I don't know if it was the same coach craft place who did this by not masking it up etc.

Unfortunately after you've taken it away, there's little you can do, and I don't know if these were there before which was *very* frustrating, but it could be worse as these are minor things

Well, for now I've had one done. The general finish from the powdercoaters was good, but a few areas are a bit bobbly (under the lacquer), so stand out against the rest which is generally nice, and then also under the lacquer seem to be a lot of specks. Possibly 15 noticeable ones around the face/sides of the spokes...

If they could get rid of the specks in the paint I'd be happy for the price paid, and even happier if the wheels were consistent all round (no bobbles in a few small areas)

So going to go speak to them after doing just the one, and seeing if they can improve the finish on the next one. If they can't I'll just DIY them. I got as good results with tins spraying outside on a warm day after some rain, and managed to flat my lacquer with wet sanding and get a mirror top coat too!

I'd happily pay more to get them right, but don't want to pay at all if I'm not 100% with the finish they can achieve (which shows it can be good enough, just their environmental controls must be a bit lacking and their checks for good coverage on the base)

Bit gutted really, I expected one or two specs as per Wondermikes wheels, but not 10-15 ones :(

Did you get them done at Garforth then Dave? Seems a bit odd that you have so many defects on yours, the specks I had were only on the one wheel, the other 3 were perfect - but then they were only 18 months old when I had them done and on the front face especially they were in perfect nick.

Bit disappointing.
