Looking to buy a Z4M Coupe:

Good man!

I hope the quick go you had in mine at the 2010 NE meet is not the sole cause of you embarking upon this foolhardy quest. I'd hate to feel responsible for you joining the ranks of the 'Impoverished Friends of OPEC' club. :D
It's a good chunk of it! :D

I want that. But it's too expensive :(

Why would it have needed a new battery?

I wonder why the battery is more prone to dieing :?
Highly tuned engine putting more stress on the battery when starting?

Still on my original battery and brakes. 32k and i don't drive it in the Winter and it doesn't have a trickle charger. Lives in the garage so maybe that makes a difference. Pads are hardly worn which suggests I'm not going fast enough

I think the Sat Nav is probably not as good as a tomtom, but even so if i was buying a M, then a satnav would be a must, for resale purposes

I can see the benefits of the nav screen for purposes other than navigation, and it would be nice to have. But a non-nav car would have been cheaper to buy in the first place, so it shouldn't matter if you don't get quite as much for it when you sell it.

I think the resale concerns would only be a serious issue if the cars simply would not sell without nav. I don't think that's the case - a well kept example of a Z4 coupe (M or non-M) is surely going to have a market and, in my view, is a better proposition than a badly kept one with nav.

Plus, with good cars going for £15 - £16,000 at the moment - if you bought one now at that price (with or without nav), looked after it well and sold in a couple of years time, I would really hope you wouldn't be skinned alive by depreciation when you came to sell.

I suppose that depends on the economy and fuel prices though, and admit that this is all a hypothesis that I, as someone with a non-nav M, would dearly love to think was true. :)

Yep, also still on my original battery. Car is nearly 4 yrs old, has only done 15k and is garaged. A few months ago the battery got so flat it wouldn't turn the starter motor and the car did all sorts of strange things (rapidly flashing headlights was one).

Bought a Ctek charger and ran the battery through a full cycle. The starter motor now turns over better than ever, even if the car has not been used for a couple of weeks (and that's without putting it on trickle charge).

Because some aren't used as a daily, perhaps?

That's my theory too. Mine is not used daily, but when it is used, it's 's usually for a journey of at least 50 miles. What seemed to knacker my battery was a combination of infrequent use and short journeys of under 10 miles. But since using the Ctek, it's been great.

Good luck with the hunt Spud
