Never been a better time to buy with so many to choose from :)
Might be worth adding other target areas like preferred external colour / miles & if you haven't already then scope through the forum cars currently for sale which right now should have something that covers a wide range of choices .

Thanks for the links will go through them. External colour really like black and dark grey but happy to look at others, miles below 90k if possible.

I am yet to test drive one but heard great thanks about the cars. I recently purchased a cayman S which had issues from the word go so ended up sending it back and getting a full refund. The drive was good when I had no problems but little subdued for me so hoping the z4m will be different!

Where abouts are you based Nick. I've found this group to be really welcoming and going to view one in your neck of the woods from one of the members I'm sure wouldn't be a problem, for sale or not.

Thinking of letting this go,wots your budget

It does indeed but the trick when getting into any Z4M is to see where in the sequence of spend you are buying into it at
ie the 3 main costs for owners are
1) ins2 - £750ish ins1 -£500ish
2 ) brakes budget £250 a corner
3) wheel condition ( £250 refurb + tyres £450/500)
so what might well appear a great buy could soon relieve you of £2k/£2500 + & that's just the routine stuff before you start repainting the front fangs & nose , suspension etc
Consider all cars as possibles but do your footwork & homework to suss out the best car for current condition & history but with a eye on looming spend , there are prime well kept cars that will only need fuel & a oil change in 12-18 months 4-5k miles

Hi and welcome to the forum Nick.

Some great advice there from mr wilks.

I loved my 3.0Si Coupes for over 5 years, but when my MC got advertised just before last Christmas I just knew I had to have it!

Do some research before you start viewing as while the S54 engine is fantastic it does need to be looked after properly, like having a running-in service at around 1,000 miles and the Inspection 1 and 2 services already mentioned that include checking valve clearances and adding shims if required because they don't have hydraulic self-adjusting.

Thank you both for the last two posts much appreciated, I’m hoping one comes up near me!!

Dont be afraid to travel for the rite car.
Worst case make a day out of it and take the time on the way home to get to know the car.

More good advice there!

Mine was 140 miles away, but at a price I couldn't ignore.

Bear in mind only 600 or so M Coupes were ever registered in the UK, and once you start adding in factors like price, mileage, colours, etc. you'd be very lucky to find the right car locally.

I'd be happy to find 1 within 200 miles (Si not even an M) that ticks the boxes for me.

Found 1 today and its 300 miles away :o

First up,while they are great cars, they are not for everyone.
As with the Porsches, which you felt too, some if them leave me a bit cold(while other models are Excellent).
Best to test drive a z4 m local to you, even if it's outside your budget, but that would be my starting point.

Also,as others said,be willing to travel for the right spec, mileage etc.
I went to Birmingham for mine, from Mid Scotland.

Good advice from Andy/MrWilks,
But re service costs, that would be from some indies!/BMW specialists.
And prices for services at indies round the country can vary and if you want BMW Dealer service, then budget a bit more ,at £700+ and upto £1200 for Inspection 1 & 2s, respectively. You get good and not so good in both camps, lol.
Oil services are not bad though,at around £150-ish from an indy,as its only filters, oil and some checks.
Or buy the Oil yourself 😃

Insp. 1 and 2 Need Valve clearance checks and usually a few shims swapped/renewed,so ask any potential garage you ask about taking it to come back with the correct answers, when you ask what they include in their services on them.
It would surprise you how many Dealers and Indies/ Specialists alike don't do valve clearance checks or shims when asked about it,and it's a must do item every Inspection service.
I know from personal experience, they quote £200-£300 for an Inspection service, which when you are talking about upto 2 hours Labour to do valve clearance checks and replace/swap out shims then re check, plus around £100+ for Oil,oil filter and Pollen filter, plus an Hour or more Labour on these jobs ,pkus the "checks" they need to do,then you know it's just too cheap.
Also, they need the car the night before, for the valve clearance checks, and if they say they don't,and will do it when you bring it in,go elsewhere,as they need done from Cold.

N.b Services are Oil/Insp.1/Oik/Insp.2, every 2 years,or approx. 12-15k miles ,variable with driving style,etc...in case you haven't read this already elsewhere?
Although it's worth doing an Additional Oil change Annually, in-between required servicing.
Plus, Brake fluid,as with most cars, every 2 years ontop.

Budget around £1000 per year on average, for services, repairs etc and you will be fine,as the older these cars get,and increase in miles, certain things need doing,or can go wrong.

Things worth having, spec wise are different to different folk, but nice to have are DSP hifi, pro Nav (just but updated maps), Cruise......most other desirable kit at the time was standard.
OEM CSL Alloys.

These are great cars, but always good to have as much info as possible 👍

Some good advice here and often overlooked when people are looking for a relative bargain headline price.

I must announce a vested interest as mine is the midnight blue Z4M for sale. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-coupe/bmw-z-series-z4-m-coupe----------------2007/10567938

This has had all wheels professionally refurbished and new brakes all around. Together with the previous service schedule it should be a car than only needs an oil service in he next 12 months.

There are 'cheap' cars out there, but like any performance machine replacement and renewal of parts can really add up making the 'bargain car' very expensive.

Like you I was looking at a Cayman and very quickly came to the conclusion that the Z4M was much more to my taste after driving both.

This one is cheap because there is a 7 year gap in the service history !!

I was interested in it and contacted BMW just to check the book wasn't missing information however they didn't have any records of servicing during the 7 year time period.
