Hello folks newbie here.

I have decided to join the forum as I am looking to buy a used Z4 in the next two weeks.

For me the only place to look for a cherished car is with you good people on the forum.

A bit about me... in my early 50's now and a former member of the Mazda MX5 Owners Club, ( I know, I know, but you all have to admit they are ridiculously reliable & a hoot to drive on a great road). You are right though, the jibes did get too much & I sold it & bought a 2001 E46 325i saloon.

The E46 had a FSH with BMW, but needed a bit of TLC to get it looking good.
As a result I had the wheels refurbished, & took it upon myself to clean and re-dye the leather interior, which worked a treat. Finally I had the bumpers re-sprayed due to chipping, & the car was lovely.

I kept the E46 about 18 months & part exchanged it for an E60 530D saloon. This was a one owner manual car bought at 3 years old. I had the car re-mapped & as a result nearly killed myself  what a car though.

I ended up selling the car two years later when we moved house. Since then I have been driving boring vehicles.

I now permission (fhwmbo) to purchase a Z4.

Bottom line is I have always wanted one, & I my heart is set on acquiring a six cylinder car.

The budget? well, between £8,000 & £10,000 cash.

So that's it folks, if anyone out there has just found out they have a new addition too the family on the way, or looking to sell to purchase a different vehicle, then please drop me a line.

Cheers

Mark

Interesting write up Mark - there are a few of us not ashamed to say we come from a background of MX5 - brilliant cars and immense fun for the money and so reliable - I'd have one tomorrow if required.

You've got a great price point there - should be able to get yourself a well cared for facelift 3.0si up to when the new E89 came out.

Be patient they are quite rare but this is the right time of year to be looking.

:driving:

Welcome Mark

No MX-5 bashing on here, great little cars.

I'm sure you'll find a great example with that budget.

Bradford fan living in Fax?

Welcome, and indeed a good budget to look at a good car. A 3.0 SI would fit the bill perfectly, do not settle for anything less as you will be disappointed.

Nothing wrong with an MX5 though, if you had said a Ford Ka convertible you may have had a different reaction :D

You are right Paul,

With the MX 5 I had the opportunity to fill a life's dream.

I drove it all the way to the South of France with the wife, just short of a 1000 miles from our home in Yorkshire to the house in Marseillan (Not too far from Montpellier)

Did 3,000 miles in total, touring the area, and even skipped into northern Spain for a night.

The car (A MK 2.5 2.0i Sport) had a factory body kit fitted, along with the chrome luggage rack on the boot lid. It looked great.

On the way back north we passed a load of exotica from Blighty that had been down to Le Mans.

In the service area, I kid you not, there were more people taking pictures of our MX5 than taking shots of Aston's etc!!! mind you it was hot in the south with no air conditioning. All the locals drove around with their tops on and the air conditioning on.

Anyway got to drive a soft top to the South of France :driving:

AS regards the Z4, yes I'm sure the right car will come along eventually, the money is sat there.

Hi and welcome. You have come to the right place.

You just need to get into the habit of typing "Roadster" when you type Z4. :D

Good luck with your search.

Can't help with your search but I wouldn't knock the MX5, it's the reason I've got a Zed
I hired one on holiday for a few days a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time
I was determined to get one as my next car, then saw a Zed in the company car park
Rest as they say is history

Good luck finding the right one - it will be out there somewhere

Nice starter Z yes :poke:

We had a Mk2 1.8 and every day when I came in from work I would say to my wife 'I love that car!' - so much fun.
We still have it's registration on our Zed - my wife liked the MX so much she wanted to keep a part of it.

For info I bought a 2008 3.0si Sport from a BMW dealership in January this year (p/ex'd my 2006 2.0i Sport for it) Authorised Used Car with 1 year warranty and 54000 miles for £10,500. Waited many months to find the car I wanted at the right price - even then I compromised on colour just to get into the later 3.0si.

Have you driven one yet? They are very different to the MX - more focussed and serious and it took me time to get used to - and that was the 2.0 litre which I thought was a very capable Zed - but that 3.0 litre is so compelling - you'll grow to love the Zed but you'll always be impressed with the engine - every run is an event.

We have plans to drive in Europe - you make it sound fabulous!

Then you've got the forum runs - get to the National if you can (in the Lakes) or come up and do one of our runs in the North East - adds a wonderful extra dimension to Zed ownership. Have a look through the Meets/Events/Roadtrips section to see photos and accounts. Had a fabulous forum run up to Skye this year - very nice folk in the forum!

Paul,

You wont believe this but tomorrow we are heading up just north of you to Craster for a weeks holiday.

We love Northumberland, &I have always found the the roads quiet no matter what time of year we have visited.

The drives up & around the Scottish borders Coldstream, Jedburgh, etc are superb.

Driving to France is also superb, I forgot to mention I drove there again in the E46, much more civilised on that occasion with auto box, & air con, but not an 'Event' driving the MX was.

There is very little traffic out of the French holidays & the drive over the Massif Central mountain range takes your breath away.

If you'd have been up last weekend you could have met 15 Zeds doing a loop through The Jolly Fisherman at Craster - there's a video of it at the end of the Northumberland Castles and Coast run postings.

Have a great time and see you on some of the runs next year then! :D

:driving:

Well folks,

Back after some fresh sea air.

Had a great time, & met up with paulgs1000, who was very kind and let me have a drive of his lovely 3.0si along the Northumberland coast road, :driving:

Thanks again mate loved it.

Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to purchase a car as I was unable to contact anyone as I had no wi-fi or decent phone signal.

Since I got back, I like the rest of you have been drooling over Zematt's M car.

Not only have I being drooling over it, but decided I want to buy it.

Does anyone know if he's still got it? or have I missed out?

If anyone has Rob's mobile could they please PM me with it so I contact him.

I'm eating my finger nails in anticipation.
