Wanted - Z4 Coupe

I will be back in the UK at the end of March and am looking for a great Z4 Coupe. I am keeping an eye on this forum, Piston Heads, Autotrader and ebay, as well as BMW Approved. I will be based near Bath but happy to travel to find the right car. Here's my ideal spec:

2006 - 2008 Sport - might consider an SE
Auto (sequencial) or Manual
Low mileage - ideally I would like under 30,000 miles.
Colour - Silver Grey, Midnight Blue, or possibly Montego Blue (need to see one in the flesh. Or metal).
Phone Prep
Multi-function steering wheel
Any other extras a bonus
Needs full service history

I'm on a budget of course so a 2008 with low miles and SatNav is likely to be out just of reach. But otherwise I am cash good to go, no trade in or PX and need to get some wheels pretty soon.

So, if you have my dream car or spot one that fits then please feel free to let me know.

Enjoying the forum which is full of great info for a newbie - thanks.

Any thoughts on this one?

Not quite sure of the colour - is there a Silver Grey and a Grey Grey (if you see what I mean? Don't know the BMW names).
High spec and looks loved by previous owner.
Slightly above my budget but low miles and 2008.
Not sure of the 2nd hand value difference between Sport and SE?

It's not my perfect car but then Cameron Diaz isn't perfect either.

Doh!

Here's the link:

And this is the other one I have an eye on. Again, a little over my budget and as a private sale not sure of the haggleability (was previously on at £15,500).
Just not 100% on the colour yet but looks like a nice spec.

Try and get a sport over SE, there isn't a huge difference but the spec is nicer on the Sport and will always be easier to sell.

M Sport Seats
M Sport Steering Wheel (Thicker)
Anthracite Head Lining
Sports suspension
108 or MV2 Alloys

Hi,

I recently bought a coupe - had similar budget / requirements to you.

The one above on autotrader I considered viewing, but imo it is top money, there was another one on pistonheads of a similar colour which was just down the road from me at similar ££ - the geezer selling didn't even know how many owners it'd had (well he said he wasn't sure!), i didn't pursue that one.

In the end i viewed 2, the first one was lower mileage and a bit cheaper but it was not in the same league as the one i ended up buying.

I reckon the key is patience - as you say given it's been reduced haggling will be hard, although you might get him on the 'first to see will buy' as it has been up for sale nearly a month.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the miles, it is hard not to, but with these engines they will go for 150k + easily and low miles doesn't always mean low use. so check out trim and so on, that'll give you the best idea of the sort of car you're buying.

The last car i bought i tried hanging out for a low mileage example and it's shocking how often actual condition doesn't tally with miles. I've seen BMWs with > 100k on the clock that are tip top inside and out and i saw a few with < 50k that look like they've been used as a work van.

There's a nice 2006 Ruby Black coupe on Pistonheads 21k miles, looks well looked after.

Good luck :)

Thanks for that, all good.

I wish I was after a black one as there seem to be lots! But that colour doesn't do it for me. As you say - patience!

Good choice (coupe).

You should able to find what you're after. My 2 cents would definitely be to stick out for a Sport as SE's dont seem to hold their value as well.

I would have bought that Ruby Black one had I not bought mine! I've been looking at it every day for the past two weeks :(

Hmm, thanks for that. Looks nice and I like the colour. I was hoping for fewer miles but I'll keep my eye on your post for new. Nice wheels but I still fancy the 5 stars. I think I am yet to be infected with the tweaking decease that this forum breeds. not sure how long I will hold out though! :)

Also, does anyone know the names of the grey colours - am I right in thinking that there are at least 2 different greys?

haha...I'm going to sound like some sort of crazy z4 stalker...I phoned about that one, it had had a few owners, which is now disclosed in the advert and he had 2 new tyres that he hadn't put on, which i couldn't really work out myself...don't ask me why...cos i'm not sure!

good colour tho...oh, and the other thing that is it was advertised a month ago at 41k miles and now it's 43k miles, so either he's getting his pound of flesh prior to selling or there's some interesting rounding going on!

not sure about the grey names...there was a very nice one grey with a sort of deep red interior on pistonheads, almost brown, but it was on higher miles, c59k..

Ive watched that one be reduced down from around £14k on p'heads. Looks ok.

yes there are many greys. Here you go:
