Wanted Z4 Coupe or E89 sDrive

I'm coming back to the land of Z4 ownership. I previously had a 2006 3.0si Sport roadster which I loved.

I have a budget of up to 15K and I am considering either a Coupe or an E89. Looking around it seems unlikely that I will get a nicely specced 30i sDrive for 15K....but there are a few nice 23i Sdrives within my budget.....would I be disappointed with the performance of the 23i?

What should I do....? Go for a coupe or save up a bit more money for an E89? I need something lowish miles as I will be putting quite a few on whatever car I buy over the next year or two.

This is what i would go for....... Wait a minute...

3.0si E86 is quicker, lighter and more nimble than the 3.0is E89. For £15k you could easily bag a low miler and have money left over for mods (if that's your thing)

I love the idea of the hardtop convertible....I 'm not into mods at all; but I do want a few things like cruise control and preferably heated seats for a roadster. I also like the idea of a newer car with better interior. For example there's a 2010 23i sDrive on Auto Trader with 21K miles, adaptive cruise control, black with red leather for £15.5k

I just wonder if I will regret not getting another 3l.....I'm also wary of getting an auto as I don't want the extra worry of that going wrong and the enormous repair bill!

But mabe I should just go for a low mileage coupe with all the toys and have some change left over! Ahhhhhhh :headbang:

How important is power to you? If it's not a big deal, then go for the E89.

If power is important, I'd look at the E86

should get a nice m for that sort of cash, or would the number of miles you'd be doing put you off?

If I was doing lots of miles I'd get a 3.0i. You'll get roughly 7-10mpg less in an M.

Are you trying to devalue your investment.

Nice as they are I don't want to spend that much on fuel.

LoL, the 2k you are under budget will get you 330l of extra fuel, something like 50 odd visits to the petrol station for a full tank.

Andi.

Why do you want to buy a low miler if you're just going to throw loads of miles on it anyway? You pay a massive premium for low miles and you won't get that back when you come to sell unless it still has low miles. These cars are good for 200k+ if well maintained so if you're not going to just use it as a Sunday cruiser, you may as well spend a lot less on one with average/high miles.

I'm looking to get a car with under 50k miles preferably...will do 30k miles over a couple of years so it'll still be worth some money at the end of it....values plummet beyond 100k and I won't be keeping it forever.

Ah, well 30k over a couple of years is average miles, not a lot of miles. From your post I assumed you meant a lot more. Yes values drop significantly over 100k (although as most start life as fleet cars the majority of BMWs have done over 100k by the time they reach 5 years old) but as said you will pay a massive premium for a car with under 50k on the clock. So I still don't think buying a low mileage car and then selling it with average miles will save you more money than buying and selling a high miler in the long run.

I tried to fit my kitesurfing board (5'7" directional) in a coupe...no chance even on the passenger seat...so I bought this...happy birthday to me ;)
