WANTED - Z4 Coupe 3.0SI Sport

Hello,

I have spent a good few months reading the forums and have finally come to the point where I can start the process of purchasing a Z4! I am quite keen to buy from a forum member as it will give me some confidence that the car has hopefully been treated in a good way! I am keeping an eye on classifieds/Ebay/Bmw AUC etc in case anything comes up!

I am after a Z4 Coupe 3.0SI Sport. Colour is not so important as I think it looks good in most! Options wise.. Ideally I would want a car with Sat Nav, Xenons, PDC, Cruise control, Heated seats, Electronic folding mirrors and the Upgraded Hifi (these last two are not essential). My budget is around £12000.

Thanks
Docp

Hi, and welcome.

I was looking around about that budget a few months ago and would say, imo, that the AUC is quite avoidable.

i specifically wanted a 3.0si sport and called about one on the AUC which was sold. the chap i spoke to told me that he could source from within the BMW network so no need to call about any others, just deal with him. at the time this seemed reasonable as the thought of 6 or 7 sales 'executives' burning my battery seemed unattractive. i could see for myself there were a few to choose from on the website but i heard nothing. 2 weeks later, he phoned me to say he had a lovely 2.2 roadster, would i like to go have a look....

others may have different approaches / experiences, but i'd not bother again!

in fact the last two cars i've bought have put me off dealers completely. i had one last week desperately trying all manner of sly tactics to get around the fact he was trying to sell a car that had been advertised with fsh, that in fact struggled to support half its mileage with history...

good luck with the search... :)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have had very similar experiences with dealers. I went through the same thoughts when I bought my last car, thinking that it was a convenience that they could source from a network etc etc! So this has put me off dealers this time around!

Did you end up buying a car?

Thanks!

yeah, i guess in the main, buying privately has disadvantages but you do at least get a feeling for how the car has been looked after etc..

yep, found a few, one sold before i was ready to buy (i was v tempted as it was a low mileage example with a good options package - sat nav, extended leather etc) but i couldn't justify 3 cars!

i ended up looking at 2, the first was lower mileage, but was a bit tired really and the second, i found on pistonheads, was from a guy on this forum, extremely well looked after.

it's frustrating, as si coupes are thin on the ground...the better ones sell quite quickly and the ones that hang around are either over priced (i did phone about one just up the road from me but the geezer clearly didn't know his cars and it was £15k + for an 07 which is high for private) or rough as nails, lots of owners that sort of thing.

Yep I guess patience is the key!

Has anyone got any opinions on this one?

Looking at those on sale it looks like I might have to stretch my budget to that ! I prefer manual.

Think you should maybe forget the sat nav option, would have a bigger choice .I spent a thousand extra on my 335d on having to have sat nav & to honest never use.Always see wish list on here having to have sat nav ! Save your money & fit a good after market sat nav if you must have it imo.

I'm expecting to sell my coupe in the next few weeks - just awaiting contracts to be exchanged on a new job, and then will have to get a larger diesel

I'll PM you when this happens. In brief mine is a stunning black 3.0si sport coupe, piano trim and red leather. All original apart from Aero skirts and a quad exhaust (same sound as original). When the Aero skirts were fitted I had the bonnet and front bumper resprayed (due to stone chips) at great expense. A few weeks back the rear bumper was fully replaced when someone drove into the back of me (bumper damage only), all through professional bodyshop & checked by BMW.

Mileage is currently at 46k, it's a 56 reg, I bought it 2 years ago with 19k miles. I haven't yet thought / researched price, but again will PM you & post on the site once I'm ready to sell.

In the meantime good luck with search

Sorry to hijack the thread, but as above I'll let you know once it's up for grabs

Hi

Thanks for the pictures wills! Your car looks great but I'd prefer an original car without modifications. Although it does look very nice..

I have decided that the sat nav and cruise control limit my choice quite a bit so would be happy with just the xenons and heated seats. I understand the parking sensors are able to be retro fitted?

Does anyone have other opinions on bmw AUC and private sellers (outside the forum)?

cheers
