Hello to everyone!

This is my first post on the forum as I’m looking to buy a Z4. Massive car fan but never actually had a really decent car before so I thought it’s time to have something exciting and impractical!

This is the specification I’m after:-
- 3.0 litre
- Manual
- Colour: one of the silver or grey metallic
- Less than 45,000 miles
- Maximum of £12,000

Nice to have but not essential:-
- Hard top
- 18” split rim alloys
- Sat Nav
- Heated seats
- Wind deflector

I live in Carshalton, Surrey (SM5) so ideally it would have to be located within 100 miles of here but might travel further for the right car.

Been scouring the usual Autotrader, Pistonheads and eBay classifieds and going to view a few this Saturday, but they are all over the place and miles apart so it’s going to be a long day!

Would like to hear from anyone selling, or knows of one for sale, that fits the above spec.

Thanks
Danyal

Shame you're not willing to go for a black one with 60k miles and all you options and save youself over a grand...

Thanks for your help so far guys.

Kryton - just replied to your PM.

Rudd_2002 - thank you. I did come across this one the other day so it's on my list.

Tommo - the black ones look gorgeous and I keep going back to your post to look at your one as it is absolutely stunning - especially with the red leather. However I owned one black car before and I don't think I am dedicated enough to keep it that clean it all the time!

Danyal - welcome and good look in the search.

If you've not considered it think about xenon headlights. It's one of those things that are too expensive to upgrade to after purchase but well worth having. Wind deflector can be easily fitted and even 108's easily traded.

Best of luck. Buying cars that are 'rare' ie not a fiesta can be a right chore. As you say they are always all over the place and your never sure if its worth the drive.

Make sure the roof goes down nice and quick, Service History, and everything feels tight. Dont worry if it wanders around the road while your testing it, thats just the run flats  .

As CJ says a lot of aspects of the car can be changed relatively cheaply, like wheels and all the retrofit options, so dont let that stop you picking up a good car.

Thanks for the tips guys.

You are right Dreamer - finding a special car isn't as easy as any old thing (like I'm used to!). Also I agree about some of the options like wheels etc being easy to change so won't worry too much about it having the right ones.

Going to spend tomorrow looking at a few so will see how I get on...

jan_tekin what colour is your Z4? Will look out for you

Actually that's a good point... have a look at the FAQ, there are details on there of what you can retro-fit - on the early cars especially BMW were very lazy and just put the wiring in for almost everything

Thanks to the hard work of several members there are some good "How To" submissions on here as well

Oh dear - not a good start! Went to look at one at a very wealthy dealer in Slough who works from home. The guy couldn't tell me anything about the features of the car, and told me I was crazy if I thought I was going to be able to test drive the car! He said if he gave tests drives he'd be doing it all day long and wasting his petrol Errrrr - isn't that an essential part of the job when you're a car dealer??? Otherwise what else do they do for their money!

He said I had to pay a £200 non-refundable deposit just to test drive it! Basically he couldn't understand why I wasn't just going to turn up and hand him almost £12,000 and take the car. He *assured* me the car worked perfectly so "why would you need a test drive"! :dizzy: He then proceeded to make personal insults.

Needless to say I walked away from that one. When you're spending over £10k on something the least you expect is common courtesy and decent customer service.

In my experience there is ALWAYS a bad reason for this kind of sales behaviour

walk away he will be bust in a week!

Good luck with your search

Nice car there.

To OP, I'd go on condition over mileage more these days... when I was looking a year ago condition wasn't proportional to mileage by along way, even on facelift models!

hello mate, im selling mine and it seems to fit your bill. However ive just had a guy come and look at it and leave me a hefty depsoit, however if things fall through ill drop you a note. The advert is still on here though if you want to look at the spec. Cheers Dean

Just a quick update. After looking at just a couple of cars I found what I thought was a real stunning example so put down a deposit immediately. Finally pick the car up tomorrow after almost 3 weeks wait!

I'll post the full details once I actually have the car. :D
