Hi All,

Thanks for looking in. I have decided to follow my heart and get a car I want again thanks to getting a job without a long car commute. I got to be taken out in a E85 3.0 when they first came out and I've always wanted one ever since. I'll try and keep it simple as I have a pretty good idea what I'm looking for so here it comes:

Engine: 3.0
Colour: Grey or Silver (Grey preferable)
Mileage: Under 90k
FSH
Previous Keepers: 3 Max
Hood: Black (I am persuadable)

It will be kept in a garage and I always look after my cars so it will be going to a good home. Any advice would be greatly received on things to look out for.

Thanks

Drew

Welcome- Alanj has a good cheack list her http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281
Generally if the car has been well looked after they are solid. 3 owners max is a strange preference- I have owned my 04 since it was less than 3 years old yet I am the 4th owner (BMW being the first then 2 others for short times) Cars can now be up to 12 years old so I would suggest you buy a well loved car regardless of how many people have loved it.

Thanks for the link Paddy, really helpful. I see what you mean about the previous owners so I'll slide that into my flexibility area.

Finally got the photos sorted out…

Brilliant car and I’m really proud of it.

Had a couple of issues but thanks to hours of going through all the excellent advice on here I found the solution first time. Basically the car was a beast to steer with tramlining. It had runflats on the front and not on the back. I got the front tyre replaced and whilst I was at the workshop I got the wheel alignment checked on their LAUNCH KWA 300 3D Wheel Alignment Machine. Turned out they were a bit out which was causing excess wear on the inside of the old tyre (basically balding on the inner third). That all fixed and what a transformation! Like a new car and a massive relief it wasn’t anything major.
So now that’s all sorted on to my to-do’s…

Exterior Repairs
I gave the car a thorough clean and polish with Autoglym products to inspect the cars body properly. There are a couple of bits of minor damage so here’s my list to correct:
1. Rear offside scratch on bumper
2. 2 x finger print size dents on the front side panels (Classic wild door bouncing in car parks)
3. 3 x faint scratches on the front bumper above the grill
4. Wheel refurbishment
5. Replacement front and back BMW Emblems

Exterior Mods
1. Stubby aerial
2. Clear side indicators

Interior Mods
This model comes with a pretty basic stereo so some work needed here.
1. Ashtray Auxiliary input
2. Speaker upgrade all round
3. Speaker install in door panels
4. Sound deadening in door panels
5. Amp
6. 6x9’s in behind seat storage compartment
7. Small subwoofer
8. Retrofit cup holders

Engine mods
1. DISA adjuster unit maintenance – Replace if required
2. Sound generator modification
3. Air intake upgrade
4. Z4M brake disc upgrade
5. Brake pad upgrade
6. Spacers front and back – Size to be decide

My skills as a mechanic are pretty basic in my opinion but I’m a quick learner so I’ll look at some other maintenance checks. I was debating keeping the service history going but I can do a pretty good job myself for a fraction of the price.
Any advice would be received with open arms.
