Looking for a “relatively” trouble free weekend car. Ideally a 3.0 for £5500 max.

Live in Yorkshire. Don’t want to be traveling miles.

Under 100,000 miles
Heated seats
Cruise control.

Just started looking so I’m open to advice and recommendations.

Hi

Good luck with your search. For your budget you should find something that meets what you are after. Cruise control is quite an easy retro fit on the pre 2006 models as the wiring was already in place so it may be worth considering cars without cruise control.

Thank you. I’ve seen that so I wouldn’t be put off. I’m actually in a wheelchair so I’d be fitting hand controls to drive. Cruise control just makes it that bit easier. Seen a few for sale. It thought you guys might have better examples or good advice.

You are always welcome to post links to Z4s you are looking at for comment. If the geography is right, another member may be happy to go and look at a car for you, or tag along to give an opinion. Anyway, good luck with your search.

These are two I’ve seen recently. Any initial thoughts or stand out warnings?

I’ve looked at the buyers guide on here but haven’t ventured to to look at any yet.

The one on eBay is a trader who seems to always have a stock of Z4s, so he may know the cars well and be a better person to buy from

You’ll have a lot in common with Lee, the eBay seller! Be warned he only accepts the asking price, there is no bargaining with him. He’s not able to do any work on the cars he sells. Check everything carefully. Keys, owners, correct sized tyres etc, service history and so on.
Just in my opinion though - I have a 3.0i auto, 2005, 98k miles, better spec than Lees and I paid £3600 for it.

The autotrader example doesn’t fill me with confidence. The dealer doesn’t know these cars. It doesn’t have cruise or M-sport seats even though they are stated in the ad. It’s also been lowered, so who knows what else. Check out the “Service History”.

The eBay example is much the same spec, but looks beautifully presented. It does have cruise control and is described as being on M-sport suspension, which could be aftermarket or a specified option. It seems a bit pricey to me.

Neither car has the desirable M-sport seats which are worth a grand on their own. Factor that into the eBay price, no-one is paying £7k for a 3.0i on 100k+ miles.

I’d keep looking if I were you, or check out Bigwinn’s collection. At least you know most of the undercarriage will be new.

Have you spoken to the sellers of each car? Maybe worth speaking to them and going from there. Alternatively as others have said it maybe worth waiting a few months simply as the closer we get to spring your normally have more cars available

Don't discount later models without cruise, it is an easy retrofit especially for someone making mods such as hand controls anyway. Stalk with a loom that makes 2 joins behind the light switch and 1 wire into the engine bay.

Just having another look at the eBay car - I initially thought that the wheels look smaller than 18 inch but I think what’s actually happened is the the original M Sport suspension has been replaced with standard kit by someone who didn’t realise that M Sport is 15mm lower than standard. The gap between the tyre and the wheel arch is much bigger than on my car.
Just something else to be aware of when looking at used cars.
