Hey! been lurking on the forum for a long while, My first post  decided to take the plunge and buy the car i have been lusting after since a first saw one. looking for a 2.5 "gray preferabley" with leather 03/04 under 60k with good sh. im located in the north east but willing to travel for the right car. max 10k or under. fingers crossed ...

Often wondered why people opt for the 2.5 over the 3.0.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the economy is very similar but the performance of the 3.0 is a good bit better.

just curious......

Totally agree. The 3.0 is far superior drive, sound etc, and still gets good economy. Insurance, servicing etc are all similar.

I just happen to have a 3.0 for sale, black though, but looks the bollocks

Darich, T2FFN thanks for your response a 2.5 is down to the car being my daily driver, you are right though not much difference in mpg to a 3.0, having checked up on autotrader. the insurance was a big hike up from a 2.5 to a 3.0 for me, i will look for a cheeper quote and maybe consider it also  always a bit sceptical about official mpg figures.. any info from folks who drive both would be good..

Damn it... where were you a couple months ago :poke:

To be honest, and this may be the gearing, but I seem to get less on the OBC MPG than many 3.0 drivers are reporting. Ride is slightly higher and softer too. Don't believe the hype... it's still fun! I would shop around properly on the insurance though, there isn't much price difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 and they do get extra toys. As a daily driver, if doing a lot of miles, I'd probably look for a 3.0 as you're more likely to get xenons. Although in fairness, I would (and did) buy on overall condition... why I got the 2.5.

If you haven't already check the FAQ to get a good idea of what's standard and what you can easily / cheaply retro fit.

Good luck in the search! And, welcome to the forum

Cheers PawnSacrifice, the 2.5 seems the cheeper option for me, i dont travel to far to work and insurance was £250 more for the 3.0, hohum !! i aint in any rush so will wait to find the right car for me,

I'm about to put the wife's up for sale. We bought it new in July 2003, always garaged and not driven winters, and we have all service records, no accidents and original paint. Sterling Grey, 42K miles, manual transmission, Sports pack (which includes M-tek suspension, 17" wheels - 106 Turbine style, sport button, front fog lights), heated seats, power top, cruise control, alarm, seats are Leatherette (looks like leather without the wear of leather). Have a clear V5 but it is a US model so left hand drive. The local BMW shop put new Bridgestone runflats on it less than a 100 miles ago (yes, we got 42Kmiles out of the original set). We're asking $16,000 US or about 10,500 pounds at the current exchange rate. We are only selling as we're moving to a location where the Z4 won't be practical (desert area).

Not sure if your price is optomistic or if mine is too low......
My 3.0Z4 fully loaded with extras, 54 plate and 44k miles with full dealer history is for sale at 11k. About to be bought by another forum member.
I got no interest at higher prices although the time of year wasn't ideal.
