Evening all,

Looking to buy my first Z4 and have a budget of £6.5k tops. Ideally looking for a 2.0 due to needing good fuel economy (car will be doing 400miles a week commuting). After some feedback I'd also consider a 2.5. Would love a facelift model but will consider a pre-facelift.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you guys give!

Cheers,

Ben :D

Hi Ben,
Just for what it's worth I bought a 2004 2.5 roadster last year I too was a little concerned about the fuel consumption at the time I had a choice of three a 3.0 a 2.5 and a 2.0 face lift the 2.0 was nice but the gurgle of the 2.5 and 3.0 was lovely I took the 2.5 as I thought the 3.0 would be thirsty.

As an example I went from a 1.6 ford focus estate (3 years old) and was putting approx £48 of petrol in the focus every 10 days ( I work local to where I live) here's the crunch I am putting on average £41 of fuel in the Z every 2 weeks !!!!!!!!!!! Work that one out !!!

I guess it's because the focus was working its bollocks off on the motorway to maintain 70/80 where as the Z hardly breaks a sweat - also with the focus I was constantly up and down the gearbox changing down for more grunt where as the z pulls all day long in any gear.

Make sure you check the roof on the older cars mine had a new roof motor but I have still had some issue with hydraulics leaking apart from that it is the dogs bollocks I even love it in the pissing down rain ! Which is all the time here in Manchester :D

Good luck with the search
I wouldn't worry to much even if you use a little more fuel the fun will be well worth it !

Thanks for the advice mate. Had been looking at the 2.5 litre but was unsure on how economical it would be only having the 5-speed box on the pre-facelift models. The commute to work is mainly a-roads with a touch of town traffic (about 20miles of 100mile round trip).

Hmm may have to take a look at the 2.5ltr then.

I have my 3.0 for sale, well priced idd say... and I usually get 30mpg on a daily drive and 40ish on the motorway.
Used to have a 323ci which is 2.5 and a 330ci supercharged 3.0 - guess what... 3.0 was more economical :) (323 was horrible on petrol, around 19mpg, when 330 did 25-30)
