Mine has a slight crack and I'm seeking to buy a used one for around a tenner.

I don't know if you can still get it done but mine had one in the corner and it was replaced by BMW under one of their Service bulletins

Hi Defy, Already checked that with dealer: negative, as Spock said!

Someone on one of the other forums from the UK was having a hard time getting the dealer to replace the lense also, I emailed a copy of the service bulletin to him and the dealer relented and fixed. It is posted in the how to section on this forum. I still cannot understand why BMW dealers will not acknowledge the service bulletin. Everyones lense seems to crack in the same spot as shown in the bulletin. I went through this also but dealer fixed when I provided the paperwork. Good Luck!

I mentioned the Service Bulletin as well and got the same response. Should have came in with a copy though because he denied there being any problems with the third brake light.

When you go in make sure that's all they fix. Don't let them get you like they got me!

Ditto, I went to the dealer for oil change and lense problem, I showed the service advisor the TSB. They wanted to know where I got it because they said they had know knowledge of the problem. Twenty minutes later they come back into the wait area and ask me to see it again. Needless to say the repair was free. I know there is no way they would of repaired it if I did not have the TSB with me. Good Luck!

Hmmmm...why not take an opportunity to get rid of the unsightly red 3rd light and get a white one?

Have a look at

yes you have to take in the service bulletin, they didn't want to do mine either and said "No you will". Then he still played it off, 30 mins later and after a talk with the manger they fixed it. :D

Hi,

Many thanks for that.

How much do you want for it and do you have any idea of the postage cost to the UK please?

Best regards,

Tim

Hi Tim
I've got a 2003 3.0i that I bought in August from a BMW dealer. It also had a cracked third brake light ... I eventually managed to get it replaced by BMW for free. It wasn't covered by the "approved used warranty", but when they put the car and lights details into the BMW "goodwill" system it came back with BMW would pay 100% labour and 100% parts.
The next "problem" was that the work was under £100 and BMW won't honour any goodwill claim for less than £100....! But after much polite complaining they agreed to do it!
There is a BMW Technical Service Bulletin SI B63 05 03 from March 2006 that descibes the problem and the fix ...
Good Luck
Kevin
