Wanted: Original aerial

You have what is known as a stubby, nasty little things. You need the correct whip aerial for your car, the one BMW spent millions on developing and you will still get poor reception
Apparently the FM aerial in behind the rear bumper on these cars, if that's what your after.

Original Whippies are becoming very sought after - reckon they'll be soon up there with those rare roof covery thingees

3 cheers for originality - hip hip etc ( God I need a life ! )

I have one I just upgraded to a stubby a few weeks ago.
The bottom is in need of a bit of a clean up with it being so old (13 years). But I'm sure all it needs is a clean with some autosol/wd40/oil and a toothbrush to get the crud off it. Looks like limescale to me or slight corrosion.

It came out smooth enough, getting the new stubby on however took a lot of work.

The new stubby cost me £25 so I'm looking to recoup a bit of cash.

How much you looking to pay?

£25 for a stubby ? , is it made of gold ?

I still have the original one, you can have that for postage costs.

that's how much a genuine bmw one costs off ebay including delivery. i don't think it's that expensive tbh. and i believe the connection is made of gold :P or at least it looks like it's gold plated.

The main FM aerial is in the rear bumper, the radio automatically switches to the whip in poor reception areas and for other wavelengths so it depends on the strength of signal as to whether the boot aerial is needed. My guess is the system would refuse to switch if a stunted stump off ebay, or Peugeot part is fitted :poke:

Thought you meant this for a minute :P

My FM reception is quite dire really, compared to my other vehicles :(

Mine generally excellent TBH, it's worth checking if the rear bumper aerial has become disconnected, easy done if the bumper has been removed at some time.

Thanks Ewazix, interesting to know yours is fine. I have to remove my bumper to check my parking sensors so will have a look then, it looks like it goes across most of the rear bumper.

Do the important thing first - fit a whippy. You can then attend to the relatively trivial task of actually getting radio reception.
