Bit of a long shot but I know there are a lot of mac fans on here.

My dads Mac Pro 3 1 (early 2008 model) has stopped displaying video and it looks like the Radeon 2600 XT is at fault.

Does anyone have an Apple desktop graphics card lying around they no longer want? Ideally the Nvidia Geforce GT 120 or something similar?

heres one you could get for £50

Cheers Brasseye - I sent him a best offer yesterday.

I think its overpriced for what it is, probably more around the £30 mark as the non-apple ones can be had for £18 on CEX but I dont know if they will work with the MAC OS

A few weeks earlier and you could have had the choice of a 3 from me. From memory there was the original 2600XT, an 8800GT, and a HD5870 :headbang:

Have stopped upgrading the graphics on my MacPro now though as the PCI bus is the limiting factor not the (flashed) HD6870.

They must have been sitting on my shelf for over 3 years, until I had a clear out over Christmas and threw them away, along with about a dozen 320/500gb HDs (taken apart, magnets removed and platters destroyed).

Thats annoying especially as you work down the road from us! :( Let us know if you see any that may work as my dads 2600XT has given up. What would you suggest to add onto the system with a 23" Apple cinema display?

Some of those cards are still worth quite a bit too!

I have a 2008 mp there's not many options I bought a gtx285 was about 450 back in the day. You can buy normal graphics and flash them.

But there aren't many and all are expensive they are all poor compared to current models.

Mine's been upgraded as I've gone along, so it now has:
32gb RAM
2 x 512gb SSDs (one Mavericks, one Windows 7 Bootcamp)
3 x 4tb HDDs for project/client stuff and backups
USB 3 PCI card
HD6870
SATA superdrive

Reached the point where I can't upgrade it to make it any faster, but can't justify £3k on a new MacPro.

There are options (e.g. netkas.org) for getting the newer, PC Cards working on our machines, but you'll hit the same PCI bus bottleneck that I've hit.

Dont suppose anyone has some old RAM for the MAC Pro they want shot of? Dad says he has 6GB which I presume is 6 x 1GB banks (will check) so likely would need to replace the lot to get some better capacity..
